NBC late-night host Seth Meyers reacted to Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) being handcuffed after he stormed into the Department of Homeland Security’s press conference last week, claiming “This is what it looks like to live in a police state.”
During Wednesday’s episode of Late Night, Meyers played a clip of Sen. Padilla claiming he was not told why he was being arrested last week, after he burst into U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press briefing, saying, “This is what it looks like to live in a police state.”

Was that a police state, Seth?
you can’t hate these leftists enough folks. After what they did to us during covid they blame the right for being authoritarian. They are the kings of projection.
AMEN
I remember that pissing me off in 2020
I think his 15 minutes is up.
How about raiding Mar-a-Lago, with shoot-to-kill orders, allegedly because the opposition candidate dud exactly the same thing the president did? Is that action like a police-state?
Yet you said nothing when the Biden DOJ, the FIB and the DC Swamp courts were trampling on American’s civil liberties left and right for 4 years. You’re just a lying, hypocritical piece of excrement Seth. You have nothing to say that is worth listening to.
He was detained for impersonating a 12 year old girl.
Did Seth say anything the last four years? January 6th protestors being kept in solitary confinement? Pro life advocates praying silently and then being arrested at gunpoint at their homes? Moms being pursued for speaking their mind at school board hearings? Political opponents being arrested in multiple jurisdictions on spurious charges? How about during the COVID era - lockdowns, business closures, being fired for refusing an experimental vaccine?
Actually, this is what happens when you run into a press conference held by a Presidential Cabinet secretary acting like a raving lunatic.
That occurred to me as well. If we were truly in a police state or dictatorship, someone spouting off as he did, would be summarily removed from the airwaves, and be in jail.
Heck if this was a ruthless dictatorship with Trump, people like these so called late night comedians would be afraid to say such things. They would be fearful for their safety. Clearly they are not feeling any fear of saying what they say.
This is one of those inconvenient truths.
I did not see the press conference. But I heard he was behaving erratically, and did not identify himself as a US Senator. Not all members of Congress are immediately recognizable on sight. For all they knew, he was a raving lunatic.
One of the portrayals often seen in the movies and television is the UNITED STATES SENATOR demanding something, just because they are a SENATOR.
The scene could be in a restaurant, entertainment venue, etc. It is basically “I DEMAND you pay attention to ME! I am more important!”
Senator panties-in-a-wad seems to have watched too much TV.
PS - He had no ID and just barges into the room. As far as security was concerned, he could have been anyone.
Turns out he is not nobody.
Padilla is a 68 IQ overgrown emotionally unstable moron that stormed into an official government proceeding, shouted down a presidential cabinet member, resisted LEO’s present and lunged towards her. The bunghole should shut his pie hole because he really is lucky he can still walk and breathe. Which he certainly would not be able to do if I was on her security detail.
A STEADY DRUM BEAT OF STUPID
SETH-—IS SOMEONE APPROACHED ME IN THE SAME MANNER-—
THEY WOULD NOT WALK AWAY
THE CORONER MIGHT BE THE NEXT PERSON INVOLVED
OF—— NOT IS. SORRY
IF—— NOT IS. SORRY
