Americans Don’t Want Another Regime Change War
American Thinker ^ | June 19, 2025 | By J. Robert Smith

Eliminating or crippling Iran’s nuclear weapons development infrastructure is vital. President Trump says that Iran is nearing nuclear weapons capability. Coordinating with the Israelis in removing or diminishing that threat serves both countries’ national security interests. Morphing that limited aim into a regime change war isn’t in America’s interest.

#

Trump’s opposition to direct U.S. military intervention chagrins neocons and some Israel boosters, but Trump has been many times adamant: He opposes the Washington establishment’s eagerness for color revolutions, regime change wars, nation-building exercises, and whatever else in the past the State Department and CIA have concocted and Lindsey Graham has rah-rahed. Trump’s opposition is sound. Not coincidently, he’s in full step with most Americans.

#

In the main, Americans favor ending Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions even if that requires limited military action. They prefer negotiations to work, though. But they don’t want another regime change war. Not in Iran, not anywhere. No more occupations. They’ve seen enough blood spilled and treasure squandered in Iraq, Afghanistan, and long distant Vietnam -- all fruitless and costly ventures.

#

Trump’s years-long stances and pronouncements against endless wars and his mandate last November shouts that he won’t embroil the U.S. in what neocons crave: full-scale war with Iran. How he threads the needle is the art of it.

The regime change needed is in the USA

The enemy is at home - Trump needs to continue the work of rooting out the deep-state from Federal government, removing DEI from education, business and society, fix the electoral systems, and fully eradicate the weaponized illegal immigration the left has used to social-engineer American society

Wars always have unintended consequences, and Trump and those around him are completely miscalculating what a slip-up or unexpected scenario in Iran would do to him, and to MAGA.

Would Czar Nicholas II have got into WWI if he knew that his entry into that war would end up empowering the Bolsheviks - and killing his own family? Its an extreme case, but the comparison is apt.

The problem with color change wars and actions is that the result is too often worse than the original problem. Better to be surgical about the overt threats, and let the countries rise and fall on their own. Several science fiction authors have written stories about how unrestrained meddling is worse than doing nothing, or very much restricting actions. Particularly telling are the stories written about using time travel to try to “improve” situations like killing Hitler before he rose to power in 20th century German. Pay particular attention to Asimov and Heinlein.

You mean returning Iran back to the pre 1979 era-when it was a western style country? Before the dirty old men with dirty old beards and dirty old rags who have a 5th century mentality took over?

You mean returning Iran back to the pre 1979 era-when it was a western style country?

Explain to us how that is possible without us putting troops on the ground, occupying Iran and nation building?

We've been trying 23 years.

It doesn't work in Muslim countries.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Actually I am coming around to the idea. The world would be thank us if we got rid of the mullahs. Iran has been a pain for decades, enough already.

24 years after the U.S. invaded Afghanistan and toppled the Taliban government, those same “dirty old men with dirty old beards and dirty old rags who have a 5th century mentality” are back in power.

It’s long past time for many American “conservatives” to grow up and get over their silly, childish, delusional mentality.

Can you think of one example where the U.S. has done one without the other?

I hate to break this to you, but in Beltway/globalist circles the “nation building” is more important than the “regime change.” In fact, in most cases the nation building is the ONLY REASON for the regime change in the first place.

If you have any doubts about that, just look at the retardation that characterizes the U.S. policy and financial dealings in Ukraine.

It’s possible some in MAGA would be willing to accept using our bunker buster bombs to take out Fordow but that idea was quickly ramped up to demand regime change. Regime change is a whole different ballgame and goes AGAINST everything Trump claimed to be for. Then there’s the question as to whether a bunker buster would even be capable of taking out Fordow. I watched a video of an MIT professor of physics discussing this and he said the chances of this working are not good.

I’m not optimistic as General Kurilla is said to be Trump’s primary advisor on this and he’s a total neocon. The only hope is that Trump sees how many of his supporters are adamantly against regime change that he holds off getting us involved to that extent. But it doesn’t look good at this point.

We get rid of them and then what?

Do you really think Islamic fundamentalists won't fill the power vacuum? They always do in Muslim countries.

And, if Iran is weakened, then Qatar will step up and finance jihadists.

This idea we can go to war, bomb and kill our way to a Western friendly democracy is a fantasy that has been tried and failed for at least 23 years.
