Regardless of whether Israel has the capabilities to decimate Iran’s entire nuclear program, or if the United States needs to become further involved in the war and provide Israel with “bunker-buster” bombs, one thing is clear: “If this war should end with the Iranian regime intact and the elements of its nuclear program recoverable, then, in some ways, it will be all for naught,” argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.”
“It is surreal. If we had this conversation five years ago and I said to you, ‘the Iranian nation—that is huge compared to Israel, 10 times the population—the Iranian nation has lost all control of the Houthi terrorists and they are themselves neutered. Their surrogates in the West Bank, Gaza are neutered. They're gone, Hamas as a fighting force. The formidable, the terrifying Hezbollah cadres, they're inert.
‘“‘There is no Russian presence. It's not a patron. It is not a protector. It's not a power in the Middle East. It's tied down in Ukraine. And Iran itself, the formidable powerhouse of the Middle East that evoked terror all over, has no defenses....'

So has Iran backed itself into a corner, or has Trump oversimplified the equation?

I agree with VDH. This damned Iran-nuke issue has been a political football for decades. It’s time to END IT. Israel has softened them up, if it’s not up to the US to drop the MOB and turn that underground facility into rubble, let’s do it. No future Democrat president can undo that!
Basically what I’ve been stating from the outset.
You know, and I know, that President Trump knows this … he won’t allow their nuclear program to survive.
I disagree.
Just postponing when they can get their first nuke is still a win.
It may not be the best win, but is still a win.
I so agree with you bigbob!!! Getter done!!!!
If the regime survives, they can rebuild it. The regime must go.
It shall survive and even prosper..God is not done with Iran just yet...the end will be unimaginable for Iran...
but what fills the void? Something just as bad? Or even worse?
Not saying you are wrong...actually you are correct - but those are concerns. Would the existing security forces instead be loyal to the Shah if the exiled crown prince returns and takes the throne to maintain the nation under more just leadership? Or would warring tribes throw things even more into chaos that then spreads beyond Iran’s borders?
It’s not their nuclear program that’s the core issue. France, Britain, and India all have nuclear weapons programs and we aren’t bombing them.
It’s the political philosophy behind the Iranian regime that’s the problem.
They honestly believe that they’re commanded by God himself to murder every single Jew, not just in Israel, but every single one on the planet. And they see America as not just standing in the way of that goal, but that OUR political philosophy is evil and that they are also commanded by God himself to destroy it.
There’s no way to coexist with that. It’s not possible. If they don’t get their hands on a nuke they’ll try a bio weapon or something else. To them ANY means is perfectly acceptable as long as it advances their goals.
They’re not restrained by anything we recognize as beyond the pale. They don’t recognize “civilians”. To them they’re perfectly legitimate targets.
So they have to be destroyed utterly. We have to wipe them out so completely that it takes a century before anyone else comes along and tries it.
This is a battle between civilization and savagery. And we simply must win it.
L
Legitimate concerns for sure.
HE IS RIGHT!
IF WE ARE NOT INNIT TO WINNIT, WE’LL HAVE MADE THE SAME MISTAKE PRESIDENTS HAVE BEEN MAKING SINCE THE END OF WW II!
MACARTHUR WAS RIGHT! “THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR VICTORY!”
And yet Israel knew they did not have the capability when they first struck .
It’s going to take a bunker buster to knock out Iran’s nukes. Israel doesn’t have them . They knew they didn’t have the capability. Yet, they started the war and are now like … ‘but, we need your help’ .
Kick ‘em when they’re down. Destroy that capability for good. These creepy clowns (crazy as bedbugs) have invested tens of billions in centrifuges and buried them under mountains. Because the refined uranium is going to be used for nuclear power?
I have noticed the major strategy change.
Since that stupid Senator Church committee in 1975, we (US government) were prohibited targeted killing foreign leaders.
So we end up killing thousands of more-less innocent draftees of foreign forces, but leaving the leaders in charge (first Iraq war as an example).
Now we, and especially Israel, are leaving these foot soldiers and killing the leaders!
Seems pretty smart to me!
So if IT fails IT will not have worked - do I have your comment right Vic? Very pithy.
Which is why you don't leave anything let alone anything nuclear for the next crowd. Let them start with nothing.
