The Black Lives Matter mural on Center Street in front of Santa Cruz City Hall has a bright new feel this week thanks to volunteers who worked together earlier this month at a community event organized by SC Equity Collab to repaint the iconic message in downtown Santa Cruz.

During the recent repainting, Mustapha mentioned that the absence of local activist Thairie Ritchie at the event was felt by many, as Ritchie is still recovering from his act of self-immolation on top of the mural in late January after President Donald Trump had taken his oath of office.
