Liz Shuler knows she has a long summer ahead of her. Over the past week, the president of the AFL-CIO, which has more than 15 million members, has seen organized labor’s ongoing battle with the Trump administration come under an even brighter spotlight.
David Huerta, the president of the Service Employees International Union of California (SEIU), was arrested on June 6 during a demonstration against an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid in Los Angeles’s garment district. His detention set off alarm bells among unions across the country, and made it clear that organized labor would play a major role in the ongoing saga over Trump’s immigration crackdowns.
More protests are planned for this weekend, but the next few months may prove to be critical for unions, and whether or not they are able to successfully push back against the president’s policies.

Sick and twisted.
The rank and file have to be thrilled about this job replacement program.
NOT!
There was a time when the president of the AFL-CIO realized that it was his/her job to protect American workers, not illegals taking American jobs.
What rational politician would overtly advocate for folks whose first action was the criminally illegal entry into the United States, more than the nearly 8 million who have come to this nation legally? https://torrancestephensphd.substack.com/p/from-al-green-to-alex-padilla
Want to stop that? Make it illegal to collect union dues, vacation, pension and healthcare on illegals.
The cheap under the table Illegals are the backbone of the AFL-CIO , ?
We just had an election about it. MAGA won.
Classic case of management vs membership. Far better for membership if the illegals go home, but more members for management to suck off of if they stay.
So much for representing American workers.
The skank unions. Especially SEIU. The illegal alien union. SEIU tried to take over Arizona after Bonzo got elected. The SOBS came into the State offices the first morning Bonzo took office and started bullying and strong arming Arizonians. Until I moved out of Arizona, those who joined were dropping like flies. Don’t know what happened once the 40 foot Amazon Women took over. From what everyone is telling me, Arizona has really gone to hell.
Correct. The unions have been captured and are supporting foreigners over the interests of their members.
Good idea!
Big time!
Apparently, always follow the money
The dims are the party of illegals, trans, and karens. Now that is an A team😎
Also, they’re not “Trump’s immigration policies”, they’re the LAW. If she advocates breaking the law and assists in doing so, she is an accomplice to the crime.
Time to break up the unions. National ‘right to work’ laws need to be written so people can choose to join or not join the union.
His policy is to enforce the law and she has a problem with that?
This reaches the point of absurdity in unions like the United Steelworkers, which has something like 6 or 7 retirees for each working member. The leaders of those unions don’t hesitate to screw workers on behalf of retirees. They’ll gladly settle for $5/hour less when negotiating wages, in exchange for an extra $5/hour in pension fund contributions.
It’s really amazing how the Democrat party and the union leaders have turned against America’s working class.
But there is good news. More and more blue-collar folks are realizing that MAGA is the best way forward, for both them and for the country.
Side point: Don’t expect union workers to oust their union leaders anytime soon. When it comes to union elections, the fix is in. Always. I could tell you a dozen stories about that.
I don’t get it. Why would she advocate for low cost labor to come in and complete with her membership for jobs? If I were a union member, I’d be calling for her resignation.
