Blue State Blues: The Column I Wrote Before I Knew Israel Attacked Iran
Breitbart ^ | 06/13/2025 | Joel B. Pollak

Posted on 06/13/2025 9:52:58 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

On Thursday afternoon California time, I boarded a flight with my children and began the next phase of a temporary move to Washington, DC, where we will be while our fire-ravaged neighborhood is rebuilt.

I checked the news before we boarded, and while there had been rumors all day that Israel might attack Iran, there was no news about it by the time we took off.

There was also no WiFi on the flight — a rarity — so I sat down to write my weekly column offline. I was concerned about the skepticism I perceived, especially on the American right, about Israel’s ability to carry out a successful effort.

For the record, I did not actually think an Israeli attack was imminent, but I was absolutely convinced that Israel would succeed if it did attack Iran, even acting alone. Israel, with its survival at stake, always does.

This is what I wrote, without knowing that Israel was attacking Iran’s nuclear sites at the very same time that I was putting these thoughts together:

The United States should lead, join, or support airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear sites to prevent the regime from developing nuclear weapons or exporting nuclear material and technology to its terrorist proxies.

Iran is clearly a threat. It has a long record of attacking U.S. forces, both directly and through its terrorist proxies. Iran and its proxies have also attacked U.S. allies, with Israel the most notable target, but not the only one.

Many of these attacks have been unprovoked. For example, Hamas, a Palestinian terror group with Iranian backing, broke an existing ceasefire to launch the terror attacks of October 7, 2023.

They were planning this while traitor Joe was still President. It is a miracle they were able to keep it a secret.

Threat? No they are a combatant, murderous state who is actively killing us and our friends. The moved from the threat category along time ago.

“The United States should lead, join, or support airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear sites ...”

How about ‘No’, Israeli-Americans.

If you watch Sarah Adams podcasts, she talks about all the connections and intelligence we lost due to Democrat policies. Afghanistan put assets at risk by pulling out like we did.

Iran almost certainly retains the ability to assemble about a dozen bombs even if Israel knocked out the enrichment facilities.

If the islamist regime in Tehran is rejected and removed by the people of Iran, will the will remain to assemble those dozen bombs?

Guess we’ll know soon enough.

In Tehran today, the streets were packed with protesters against Israel. They hate Jews and Americans more than they hate their Islamic oppressors, so I don't see a revolution coming.

A dozen? Or two? Or one? None? Please, tell us what your opinion is based on?

You are quite wrong about this. The great, great majority of the Iranian people hate the regime of the mullahs and love the US and Israel. Don’t believe me? Watch an Iranian refugee TV podcast. He’ll tell you.

Then why don't I see these people in the streets counteracting the anti-Israel protesters?

Heard today that Iran has a population of 90 million, and that, at most, about 3 percent are politically tied in with the ruling regime and will appear in the streets, when prevailed upon to do so by the thug mullahs. To give the rest of the world the impression that they have actual popular support. When, in reality, they don’t.

That's explained quite well in the video. When bombs are falling, normal people hide in shelters. Tousi TV (iranian) commentator estimates that that 97% of the populace hates the regime and want the Shah to return.

Those are more likely employees or otherwise rent-a-protestors paid off by what’s left of the Iranian regime. I’m sure there’s some ambivalence among the Iranian people towards Israel at this point, but I doubt the regime (if it survives any length of time) will be able to stir up any enthusiasm for a conflict with Israel. In a major survey a few years ago more Iranians responded that they were atheist/agnostic/nones than any sort of Muslim. That’s how badly the regime there has undermined itself and its’ Islamic foundations.

I don't have time to watch a 48-minute video.
