It’s looking like drones are a lot easier to shoot down than missiles/rockets.
I suspect the many drones appearing around NJ a few months back was a tracking and targeting test by U.S. Military.
Yes, but more expensive.
A million dollar missile to shoot down a $100k drone?.................
Yep. A lot of us were speculating something like that was going on.
A million dollar missile to shoot down a $100k drone?.................
Since drones have to be guided pretty much all the way in, I’m wondering if some sort of high power short wave, etc. could be aimed at them, causing them to simply fall out of the sky.
Israel has a laser that shoots down drones...................
Drones that have to fly 800 miles over hostile airspace when you know they’re coming...are vulnerable.
And Israel infiltrated Iran to launch theirs-smarter.
The Saudi F15’s have a 20mm Vulcan. Aerial gunfight with a target that can’t shoot back. Fun time to be a Fighter Pilot.
Agreed. What made Israel's Iron Dome vulnerable on the Oct 7 attacks were that 1) it was about 5,000 rockets, not 1,000 like this attack, 2) Oct 7 was a surprise attack, and 3) the Oct 7 rockets were from nearby launch sites.
I wouldn't be surprised if, going forward, defense against drones turns to being more like inexpensive flack from WW2. Maybe not quite as simple as WW2 flack, but something that can be built more cheaply and shot more repeatedly than an expensive Patriot interceptor type response.
I understand it’s mainly been f16s firing guns.
Old fashioned dog fight akin to spitfires vs V1s. Drones are low and slow and don’t really maneuver and don’t shoot back.
Mostly over Jordan.
They just need the Lepage Glue Gun to get those drones.

I think you’re right - but I also think that offensive drone strategies will change.
They seem much more effective (obviously) when launched from closer range.
I look for drones being smuggled in - maybe in parts - and assembled by imbedded teams and launched from short range.
Sort of like from the real estate the Chinese buy near our bases
I’m betting gun-kills. These drones are essentially non-maneuvering targets.
How much is a human life worth? Is it worth using a million dollar missile to save a life, or have you determined the appropriate numbers of victims that should be saved before the missile should be used?
They are using regular ammo to shoot them down.............
Is it mounted on a shark’s head?
That’s another reason the Gaza Strip can never be turned over to the Hamas supporters.
