Elon Musk says he regrets some posts about Donald Trump

Billionaire Elon Musk has said he regrets some of the posts he made about US President Donald Trump during their war of words on social media.

"They went too far," he wrote on his social media platform X.

The two were embroiled in a public fallout after the Tesla owner stepped back from his White House role and called Trump's tax bill a "disgusting abomination".

His post comes after Trump said he was open to the possibility of reconciliation in an interview with the New York Post on Wednesday. The president said he was a "little disappointed" about the fallout, but there were "no hard feelings".

"I think he feels very badly that he said that," Trump said of Musk's blistering social media barrage.

The budget, which includes huge tax breaks and more defence spending, was passed by the House of Representatives last month and is now being considered by senators.

Musk urged Americans to call their representatives in Washington to "kill the bill" as he believed it would "cause a recession in the second half of the year".

The tech entrepeneur claimed, without evidence, that Trump appears in unreleased government files linked to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The White House rubbished those claims.

In response, Trump said Musk had "lost his mind" and threatened to cancel his government contracts, which have an estimated value of $38bn (£28bn). A significant chunk of that goes to Musk's space technology company SpaceX.

"I think it's a very bad thing, because he's very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the president," Trump said in an interview with NBC on Sunday.

Musk appeared to have deleted many of his posts over the weekend, including one calling for Trump's impeachment.

Off his meds and upset that he wasn’t making all the decisions, glad he apologized.

The epstein post is still inexcusable. He proved he’s very very unstable. But I’m glad he is apologizing.

Really Elon?....WTH were you thinking?

His own father said he was on the wrong side of this.

Something I have noticed about super smart people.....common sense doesn’t usually seem to be one of their strong points......and this appears to be a great example.

Some things you don’t say in an argument because they will never go away, and by no means does everyone know that.
Musk said the most vile things he could have said, and we will see them brought up for years to come, and will probably even see them referenced to in books and articles for decades.

This is a popular viewpoint but I’m unaware of anything President Trump did or said regarding Elon that was too far. The most negative thing he said was an “off the cuff” that if Elon wanted the Gv’t to save money maybe they should look at the contracts w/Musk companies.
\POTUS said at a later presser that the company was an excellent company and the G’vt would continue working with them. At every stage he said Elon had done a lot for the Country and that Trump wished him well.

I think Musk was suffering a sense of betrayal and said things out of pique. He deserves credit for recanting.

I hope the DOGE cuts can be codified in some future legislation, but he’s right to be frustrated by the apparent lack of appreciation for his serious work on ways to lower our unsustainable debt.

You get a couple of big egos in the same room, and these things are bound to happen from time to time.

Yes, Autism and the insane temptation of near unlimited restrictions that comes with the agency afforded him via his extreme wealth.

He has far fewer concerns on what he can say than any normal person; so his self-censorship of vindicative internal thoughts is nowhere near what us normal people would pause to say.

As they say, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

For sure. You could sense that something like this was inevitable given their outsized personalities.

That said, Elon’s outbursts against a sitting president were way over the top. You would think that someone with his intellect and insights would have a little more self-control.

“They both went to far and acted like children”

There is no equivalency here. Responding to an attack is not childlike.

Did that scum bucket Musk ever apologize for his X-post vulgarly attacking opponents of the H-1b visa system that guts employment for US STEM graduates?

Of course not. There was no upside in apologizing for _that_, compared to _this_.

Elon Musk can go ____ himself. (You can fill in the blank with whatever you find appropriate.)

He’s proven to be untrustworthy. They might be able to have a cordial relationship, but I don’t think he will be able to have the same close relationship with Trump that he had before. No more running around with Trump on Air Force One. Probably no hanging around the Oval Office with Cabinet members. He blew it big time. It’s a shame.
