At least fourteen businesses throughout Illinois are scheduled to begin laying off employees this summer, according to information provided to Illinoisworknet.com from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity as part of Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act — of the WARN Act.

According to the site, the "information ... does not encompass layoff activity and is not intended to be a proxy for employment or job loss data. Additional layoff activity may be represented outside of an official WARN correspondence, which might not necessarily reflect the company's final action."

Total employment in Illinois is 6,172,500.

In the US, there is a lot of job turnover, about 47%. So nearly half the work force starts a new job every year.

Math 101. Probably 1 million of the 6 million have a turnover of 5 to 10 jobs in a year. Job turnover and People who change jobs are 2 totally different topics.

Same with divorce and many other topics. A small percentage of the population accounts for a disproportionate share of the data.

This article makes the assumption that people know what the heck they are talking about in detail.

2100 people to be unemployed at 14 businesses? Not be be happy, but it is 150 people per company average. Maybe a company - let's say Spacely Sprockets, employs 1500 employees in 3 plants, and the Illinois plant employs 400, which will be closing because it isn't profitable. Then it will be 13 business will layoff 1700, which will average 131 people. Maybe National Widget is closing an Illinois plant that employs 375, and opening a plant in Kentucky - and most of the employees will move - so it will be 12 plants and 1325 employees and an average of 110.

Yes being laid off is not a happy time, but it does happen.

Presidents take credit for things they have little real control or influence over. They also get blame for the same things.
