As much as Abrego Garcia's lawyers and supporters may have fought for him to return, Alan Dershowitz, who has been a defense attorney for some pretty high profile figures, told NewsNation that same day that a "big mistake" was made.
Dershowitz described the move as "a big mistake, big blunder by his lawyers," when it comes to Abrego Garcia. "His lawyers never, ever should have tried to bring him back to the United States. They should have filed a motion, having him transferred from El Salvador or Nicaragua, where maybe there was some fear, to another place, say Argentina or Brazil. He might be a free man today, if they had done that," Dershowitz continued to stress.
The famous defense attorney also provided some valuable reminders about how it is that Abrego Garcia could even be described as a mistakenly deported man, as the media have also run with. "Remember that he was ordered deported. The only flaw in the order was where he was sent, not whether he was sent. And so, I think he may spend a long time in prison," Dershowitz pointed out, also reminding this is "if he's found guilty, [since] he's presumed innocent."
"But if he's found guilty, he's going to spend a long time in prison complaining about his ideological, radical lawyers who made a hero out of him and tried to get him back to the United States, when that was not in his own self interest," Dershowitz still further stressed. "So, lawyers made the most fundamental mistake a lawyer can make: putting ideology before the best interests of the client."

Garcia is 29 years old, as of right now, so he will be here for the next 18nyears. Depending what agreement was signed in El Salvador, he might do some prison time yet down there.
” They should have filed a motion, having him transferred from El Salvador or Nicaragua, where maybe there was some fear, to another place, say Argentina or Brazil. “
El Salvador would have to agree to transfer him to Brazil or Argentina, and they would have to agree to take him.
Yup!
...putting ideology before the best interests of the client.”...
But it would be funny if he sued, and won, malpractice suits against his Lawyers ab=nd the fake news.
Then, write a book about how the gringo did him wrong.
And when he gets out of a US federal prison he can be sent back to El Salvador and face trial for his crimes there.
If people are dumb enough to elect a democrat as preezy, this guy will be pardoned.
Many Americans really are that ignorant.
the next Democratic president will pardon him, 100% guaranteed.
So “other guy will be the martyr for our cause.” It must really suck to find out that you are “the other guy”.
Bukele can request his extradition to El Salvador. There he can be imprisoned in CECOT and there isn’t a darned thing any US lawyer can do about it.
EC
It was actually the judge who forced this. SCOTUS said the Trump administration needed to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s return to the US, and Judge Xinis demanded that they FORCE Bukele to return him. The only lawful way to do that was through an extradition request, which required a crime to be charged in the US.
And it will be the same for all of these people who were deported to El Salvador. The only way to get them back to the US is through extradition requests resulting from criminal charges in the US.
What I most want to see from this is the arrest of anybody at the FBI who was involved in the FBI telling the TN cops to let this known human trafficker who was caught in the act, lied to police officers, violated his drivers license’s limitation of being able to drive in ONLY MD, AND who drove with an EXPIRED such license. That is the real scandal here and anybody involved should be charged under RICO if nothing else.
Exactly.
And he might have a malpractice cause of action against the attorneys.
