Trump-Putin Talks Promoted Shift in Russian Public Opinion, With Vast Majority Now Supporting Normalization of Relations With the US

It turns out peace is a powerful proposition.

While the peace process in the Ukraine is an urgent and vital priority for the American foreign agenda, it is but a part of the overarching détente process between the nuclear superpowers US and Russia, after the Joe Biden administration from hell managed to degrade relations to the very edge of a confrontation.

With the advent of the second Donald J. Trump administration, things soon started to change.

The few phone calls between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin and the couple of meetings between the two delegations are just a kickstart on the complex process of normalization of the bilateral relations, but it has become immediately apparent the enormous potential in the process.

And we are not talking just about the Geopolitical benefits that peace in Europe will bring, but also the immense opportunities contained in renewed economic ties between the US and Russia.

Sputnik reported:

“Putin-Trump dialogue sparked shift in Russian public opinion

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, stated that the Putin-Trump talks led to a significant shift in Russian public opinion, calling it a great opportunity for de-escalation.

‘Russians naming the US as ‘hostile’ dropped from 75% to 40%. Support for normalizing ties with the West jumped from 52% to 80%. Dialogue works’, he wrote on his social media.”

While the decrease from 75% to 40% on those Russians who view the US as ‘hostile’ is already very meaningful, the increase to jaw-dropping 80% on those who support renewed relationship with the US is not6hing but historical.

If things proceed at this pace, really wonderful things may be ahead in a world where Washington and Moscow cooperate.

There are still people on X/Twitter who insist Trump is Putin’s pawn.

Normalization of relations will really make their heads explode.

What we are seeing are the results of The Biden/Autopen Administration which chased Russia into the waiting arms of China. That’s why Russia is not open to a deal with America any longer.

Reagan’s visit to Moscow and speech at MSU in 1988 had a huge impact on increasing pro-U.S
views among the Russian public, and undermining support for the CP.

This can happen.

Russia ends idiotic war on Ukraine.

Cedes the following to US as compensation for US expenditures due to war on Ukraine.

Chukotka Autonomous Okrug
Jewish Autonomous Oblast
Kamchatka Krai
Khabarovsk Krai
Magadan Oblast
Primorsky Krai
Sakhalin Oblast

And Russia will prosper like never before with US Russia, cooperation, trade, overall alliance etc…

Keep your friends close. Your enemies closer. China is our biggest adversary. Look no further than the attempt to smuggle an agricultural bio weapon into the US.

Or... They just want McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s back.... And maybe KFC too.

Lol. You smoke some tough stuff. The only thing why Russia wants normalization with the US is because the US is still a nuclear power. It doesn’t imply friendship or alliance because it didn’t work well in the past. Russian and American economies aren’t complementary, there is simply no basis for mutual trade. And the territorial angle is particularly preposterous given the Russian divorce with Europe and pivot to Asia and Pacific. Even if normalization is to take place, Russia will still expand cooperation with China, primarily against the US which it won’t trust again. The level of this cooperation is up to the US, depending of how nice it will be. And no, the US won’t get anything from Ukraine-Trump deal because Russia will take everything anyway.

Burger King is still there, McDonald’s chain is now owned by a local company that has vastly expanded and has actually become better. KFC was sold to a local competition either, but unlike McDonald’s remained the same. Wendy’s wasn’t there to start with.

In other words, yes. You are a traitor, if in fact you are American, which is questionable.

Nope, I just point out your delusions. Russians do not see America as a friend and don’t see benefits of mutual relations, guess why? Your following statements make it clear that they have good reasons for it. Can you bring arguments to disprove it?

I believe much of what is going on with tariffs, the peace efforts, dealing with Canada, etc. comes down to China. If looked at in this perspective the Trump administration’s policies seem very consistent.

Write down this question and put it against your original point of what Russia should supposedly do for better US relations.

Now ask yourself does Russia need the US relations and, if not, why?
