President Trump has ordered the California National Guard to secure Los Angeles from the anti-ICE rioters, despite the vocal objections of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass.
It’s the first time in 60 years that the commander-in-chief deployed a state’s National Guard without the governor’s blessing, and members of the Trump administration are saying the move is justified because the protests represent a “violent insurrection” against the country.
“This is a violent insurrection,” White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller posted Saturday night.
Vice President JD Vance also used the word in describing the riots: “Insurrectionists carrying foreign flags are attacking immigration enforcement officers, while one half of America’s political leadership has decided that border enforcement is evil,” he said on X.
California Democrats seethed over the rare move from a US president. The last time the National Guard was federalized in Los Angeles was in 1992 over the Rodney King riots, when the president had the state’s backing.

The rarely used power stems from ”10 U.S.C. 12406,” part of the US Code on Armed Services that allows the federal government to mobilize the National Guard in the event of “a rebellion, or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States.”
“The federal government is taking over the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle,” Newsom added in another X post.

Masked, rioting, and waving flags of a foreign country (or in the case of Antifa - the flag of an international organization) - they’re invaders and need to be put down hard. After they get out of prison, deport them to Mexico - they waved the flag, let them live under it.

This is the business of the FedGov. These are not Americans rioting but foreign nationals attempting to impede the US Gov from doing what they are lawfully doing.
I think that utilizing the National Guard is the right call. Unfortunately, a significant percentage of the population in southern California are illegal immigrants. (This doesn’t even count legal sympathizers.) This could get really ugly. Spreading to other states is definitely a possibility as well.
There could be a lot of “civil unrest” this summer. Don’t be too surprised if it happens. I don’t think that the radical left will go quietly.
And I daresay the Democratic Party was in on the planning.
This is full on rebellion and California needs "reconstruction".

Do a little research on what Congress did to the rebellious Southern states after Lincoln’s assassination. No court has ever reversed those actions. They are still precedent.

Political Issue: The deployment of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement ) to arrest migrants who have illegally entered the country.
Central Conflict and Dispute: Resistance to Federal law enforcement efforts to arrest, detain, and deport migrants.
Fallout: Mass protests and demonstrations.
Possible Result: Nationwide non-compliance with ICE law enforcement.
I think anything deploying the national guard is “little used”. I think riots and natural disasters are the purpose of the National guard. This is a riot.
When you compare the number of actual protestors to the number of bystanders simply observing the situation, the protestor turnout was relatively small. President Trump only deployed the National Guard to protect federal law enforcement and government buildings because local and state governments declined to authorize their law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action. In reality, local enforcement agencies could have easily controlled the protestors had they been allowed to act.
I can’t imagine being Trump’s brain, having to process and communicate as much as he has to every day, every week.
