Following the horrific and incredibly destructive fires in southern California earlier this year, hundreds of residents of the Pacific Palisades neighborhood are opting to sell their homes rather than rebuild.
For months now, various people have predicted that this would happen because the bureaucratic red tape in California is a nightmare to deal with, not to mention the exorbitant costs.
It is absolutely awful that so many of these people find themselves in a position where they’re unable to rebuild homes they have lived in for years. This is all on the Democrat leaders of the city and the state.

Hundreds Choose to Sell Rather Than Rebuild After Palisades Fire
Nearly 300 Pacific Palisades residents have decided to sell their properties rather than rebuild following devastating wildfire damage, while fewer than 100 have begun reconstruction efforts.
Sotheby’s International Realty reports 273 properties in the area are currently listed for sale. Most carry price tags exceeding $1 million despite many being reduced to empty lots. In less damaged areas like Ridgeview Country Estates, homes are selling for more than $10 million.
Access restrictions complicate the sales process. Much of the Palisades remains closed except to those with special permits, forcing potential buyers to purchase properties sight unseen. Pacific Coast Highway, the main access route, has been closed since the fire, creating lengthy detours that significantly extend commute times.
For residents choosing to rebuild, the process proves challenging and costly. In county areas, only 10% of damaged or destroyed homes have submitted rebuilding applications, with just one permit issued. Within city limits, 23 permits had been approved as of late April, representing a 2% rebuild rate—half the number of those opting to sell.
For some strange reason, California Democrats just put out a video of themselves dancing.

Don’t they have more pressing matters to deal with than this?

Thank you very much and God bless you.
By design.
This is to be expected, unfortunately. The article is light on data, but I presume many, if not most, were underinsured for various reasons.
Heading for Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North and South Dakota. The California Granola people are on the move.
And THIS IS WHAT Los Angeles Olympic Committee (er, the LA democrat Party Line politicians) WANT!
The Palisades section was long sketched in as the location for the Olympic Village resident “apartments” for officials and athletes, then was to be converted to low-income democrat Party Line voters afterwards.
But the current (rich) homeowners had to be thrown out first.
Exactly, this was absolutely the intent. They saw (Dems and elite) the chance to “steal” all that property, eager to take advantage of the commoners’ misfortunes.
Exactly. Multi-family housing will get expedited treatment.
If I were AG, I would be carefully watching, and keeping track of money flows and relationships with RICO in mind.
Exactly.
Looking at For Sale in the Pallisades... yea, a lot of them are land sales only. The structures have been removed. And there’s a LOT for sale.
Good idea.
That was going to be my exact two word post.
Wow.
On Realtor.com there is a .38 lot for $4,199,000.
A third of an acre.
Land, no house!
Why not sell if the land is worth that much?!
The likelihood exists that many potential buyers will be foreign.
The fires weren’t random…the ultimate purpose was so very powerful, connected people could acquire the land. This happens more than it would ever be admitted to.
That may be the case because they chose to not buy the very expensive insurance.
Many of the older homes in that area have been passed down.
It is pretty much the only way even a upper middle class could afford to live there.
So, if they owned the home for under $500K. They may have chosen to not pay insurance on a $2Million dollar property.
Now, they will sell the lot for $1Million and move elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the fires caused an extreme shortage of rental properties in the area. People who have to stay in the LA area for work and lost their home are paying a lot of rent right now to live anywhere close.
The fact is they need to greatly change the building codes in these fire prone areas. There have been examples of houses constructed that survived these fires. Just like they changed the way you can build a house after hurricanes.
I am also sure the companies that install fire sprinkler systems that suck water out of your swimming pool are extremely busy. Multiple houses with these sprinkler systems survived. When their neighbors house burned to the ground.
I would think an insurance company would take that into consideration IF they are willing to write a policy there again.
ICE should really focus on the LA area. The Dems won’t be able to find the labor to build their Olympic Potemkin Villages. Turn the 2028 Olympics into a logistics and financial disaster like Rio and Athens.
I’m having trouble picturing being able to sell a burned out HOUSE in Pacific Palisades. How can you tell the land from the dwelling listings on Zillow?
We’ve seen the same pattern in Florida.
Post hurricane damage. Vultures swoop in and buy up distressed properties. Local bureaucratic red tape, requirements to up grade to current construction standards make it impossible for many to retain long held family property.
Quaint older neighborhoods become multi-million dollar McMansions or condominium complexes.
“”The fires weren’t random…the ultimate purpose was so very powerful, connected people could acquire the land. This happens more than it would ever be admitted to.””
OR a conspiracy that no one could envision? You have proof?
