Yunqing Jian, 33, first entered the country on a fraudulently obtained F1 student visa, the FBI says
One of the two Chinese nationals arrested for allegedly smuggling a toxic crop-killing pathogen, which also has devastating health effects on humans, stuffed the noxious fungus into her boots while entering the United States in 2022, documents show.
According to an arrest affidavit for University of Michigan post-doctoral research fellow Yunqing Jian and her boyfriend, Zunyong Liu, Jian first brought Fusarium graminearum, described as a "potential agroterrorism weapon" in scientific literature, in August 2022.
A transcribed WeChat conversation between Jian and Liu shows Liu instructing Jian on how to smuggle the fungus, according to the affidavit.

This is much too close for my comfort here.

In days of yore, that would have been described as an Act Of War and very quickly avenged. Mutual armament treaties changed that protocol forever.
Good thing it didn't hybridize with athlete's foot fungus. Talk about a terror weapon...
Evidently a bootleg weapon!
Trying to destroy our food supply is an act of war. They should be tried as spies and executed.
If there’s any justice in this world she’ll get infected with it.
Someone needs to make a list of all the food/meat processing companies in the US owned by the Chinese...
...gynecologically
It would be sad if someone smuggled a bomb into three gorges dam’s discharge machinery before the rainy season this year
No need to smuggle either it’s endemic to North America as is. These were researchers already studying this fungus, it’s possible they got told no they couldn’t get local samples so they went abroad to get them. The USDA keeps samples probably wouldn’t give them to a biolab that wasn’t a BL3 above and thats the story here.

Or a much shorter list of ones that are not.
Like lifting up any phone, laptop, tablet, sound system component, TV, kitchen appliance, vacuum, wifi device, camera and so on and find one without Made in China.
Wo Fat would have approved.
I don’t think they were deliberately trying to commit bioterrorism, I think they just wanted to bypass the rules to do their research.
But that’s precisely where the danger lies, people from China have a habit of cutting corners by not follow protocols, that’s probably how the covid virus leaked from the lab in Wuhan.
This couple might not have intended anything nefarious, but it’s entirely conceivable that they cut corners some other time and let some of the fungus they are researching on escape the their lab and cause damage in the US.
Biological warfare that could kill millions deserves a nuclear response. That’s how they learn not to do it again.
LOL
That’s the new story. Nothing to see here, it was just some shitake mushrooms.
Chinese boots on the ground!
Chicoms trying for another “Irish potato famine only in the USA & the DNC is all for it.
