John Cornyn’s Second Amendment Compromises with Biden Hampering His Reelection Bid

Sen. John Cornyn’s (R-TX) Second Amendment weakness, the result of his high profile support for gun control under Joe Biden, is hampering his reelection prospects.

On May 28, 2025, Texas Southern University’s Barbara Jordan Public Policy Research and Survey Center reported that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has a nine percent lead over Cornyn in the March 2026 Republican primary. Five days later, on June 3, 2025, Punch Bowl News pointed to “a new independent poll” showing the Cornyn’s deficit had greatly increased, with Paxton ahead by 22.

Breitbart News previously noted that Cornyn fell into low esteem with Texas voters when he took a central role in fashioning Biden’s 2022 gun control package titled the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Breitbart News observed that Cornyn was then-Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s point man for gun control, being tapped to reach across the aisle and work with Democrats to secure the legislation.

The bad news is that the Texas primary is 11 months away. If Paxton wins it won’t be by 20 points according to Mark Davis.

I hope its enough to take out Cornyn but I still regard this guy as untouchable.

Texas deserves to have two conservative senators for a change.

I am sure Paxton has an ad with Cornyn blatantly lying about how his constituents overwhelmingly supported his unconstitutional Red Flag law ready to deploy after Labor Day, which will end his representation of Washington D.C. and give us both of our Senate seats back.

Aside from the fact he “negotiated” (his words) that bill, he did so during the period emotions were high as a result of a mass shooting. Give a few months between the shooting and the bill and I doubt that thing passes. To me, this knee-jerk response to get gun control through shows he is hostile to the second amendment.

What burns me most about Coryn is that the last time he ran, his ads were almost exclusively about how Pro-Gun he was and how Anti-Gun his opponent was. He needs to be voted out. This time I will vote for anyone other than him

Cornyn is worthless. He sold Texas out being involved in Biden’s gun bill. Most in Texas would rather have Paxton.

Paxton is going to crush Cornyn. Paxton will win the primary by at least 20 percent.

I haven’t voted for Corny but once and that was his first run whilst I was stupid and under the impression that the Bush’s were fine people......I voted for a Demonrat one time after Cruz made an arse out of himself at the Republican Convention back in 2015. I voted for his Demon opponent and learned my lesson well. Every idiotic Demonrat that has run against Cruz since is a looney leftist not worth a dime much less a vote. Ken Paxton has my vote for Senate against Corny but I just hope we can find a new Attorney General that’s worthy to fill Paxton’s office.
