Russia seizes more Ukrainian territory amid fears of fresh ground offensive

More than 200 settlements in Sumy region under evacuation orders after Russia takes control of two villages.

Ukrainian officials issued evacuation orders on Saturday for 11 more villages in the northern Sumy region after continued Russian gains led to fears that Moscow could be gearing up for a fresh ground offensive.

Russia advanced deeper into Ukrainian territory on Saturday, taking control of two more villages in Sumy and killing two people in a missile and drone barrage. More than 200 settlements in the region were already under evacuation orders.

The attacks came as Ukrainian diplomats continue to discuss participating in a fresh round of peace talks proposed by Moscow in Istanbul next week.

The Ukrainian president, Volodymr Zelenskyy, has said that about 50,000 Russian troops were gathered on the border near the Sumy region, which he said was a sign that Moscow is preparing a renewed offensive.

The Russian ministry of defence said on Saturday that it had taken control of the village of Novopil in the eastern Donetsk region, as well as the village of Vodolahy in the northern Sumy region.

Russia’s military also launched 109 drones and five missiles at Ukraine overnight and in the early hours of Saturday, many of which were intercepted, the Ukrainian air force said.

Everything east of the Dnieper river and Odessa will be gone if Ukraine doesn’t take any deal it can get.

EU men in Austria and elsewhere are begining to rebel against the warmongering leaders:
“Many people just don’t want to die just because Zelensky got carried away with narcissism!” — the user shared his opinion.
“In Ukraine, the population is being deceived in the same way as in the West, and it’s nice to see that they are resisting,” the reader said.
“Ukrainians want peace. Only Zelensky and the EU want war. Nothing new — victims of political power games in their own country,” said another.
Yesterday, the Ukrainian edition of “Country.ua” reported that about a hundred residents of Kamenets-Podolsk in Ukraine came into conflict with the staff of the military enlistment office. People blocked a car with a forcibly mobilized man and cut the tires.
Videos of military mobilization in the Armed Forces of Ukraine are widely distributed on the Internet, showing representatives of Ukrainian military enlistment offices taking men away in minibuses, often beating detainees.
Men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving Ukraine during the period of martial law. Evading military service during mobilization in the country provides for criminal liability in the form of imprisonment for up to five years.”

Sounds like the Neocons believe that Trump’s weak point is the thought of Russian advances, so, for the first time, they’re accurately reporting on them.

I dunno about Odessa, but we can be assured they will run up to the Dneiper.

The last attempted assassination of Putin sealed that deal.

I agree.
Putin is paying Zelensky back for blowing up one of his generals in Moscow and trying to assassinate him in his copter in Kursk, Russia.
I don’t blame him for being pissed.
As far as I know, Putin hasn’t tried to assassinate Zelensky punk in Ukraine.
Probably because Zelensky stays out of Ukraine.

Long past time for a negotiated peace settlement, but if they’re too stupid and greedy to see that, then it’s time for us to walk away.

Did you forget the failed airborne decapitation attempt on Kyiv on the first day of the invasion?

And one more time.

There can be no deal. Any agreement with bulletproof text saying whatever it says about what Ukraine is allowed to do . . . will be dismissed as signed under duress and therefore non binding.

Russia knows this. There can be no deal. There will have to be surrender and a new Russia friendly govt in Ukraine. Nothing else had any chance of longevity.

No because I don’t believe it.
There are better ways to do it.
If Putin wanted to do, it would have been done.
Like I said, the little punk jumps between countries like a jack rabbit.
He’s a coward.

Up to that point i had some hope of a negotiated settlement through Trump.

After Trump went off with his mindless rant, that ended any chance of any settlement whatsoever.

Trump got scammed. They sabotaged his admirable attempts at peace. And Trump swallowed the whole deception hook line and sinker.

Fighting will continue untill whats left of the Ukrainian army is utterly destroyed. Or, unless the Ukrainian people rise up and kill off every single Banderite available in a night on the town, necktie style.

Trump had to give Putin a chance at securing a ceasefire.

Putin said no, then we'll continue supporting Ukraine. The only difference is that the EU is going to have to do more now.

Putin was never interested in a settlement. His goal is, and always was, the complete subjugation of Ukraine. He played Trump for a fool, and Trump has finally come to realize what bad faith Putin has had during Trump’s attempt to find a negotiated settlement and stop the mindless killing that Putin unleashed.

Complete liberation would be more accurate. If Russia takes control the Russian Orthodox Church will be unbanned, Russian language and culture will not be criminalized any longer, and the Nazis will be run out. But otherwise not much will change, and there might even be improvements in the area of freedom of press and individual rights compared to Ukraine under the EU oligarchs. And it will all be horribly embarassing to apologists for the fascists who have spent years crying that Russia is some sort of evil empire as Ukrainians realize what fools they’ve been, dying in the service of a regime that is repressing and using them so callously.

The idea was to give Putin a face-saving offramp to end the war short of his original goals. What Putin is most afraid of is the conclusion by the Russian people and by history that he has been outsmarted and outmaneuvered. He was given the opportunity to say that he just wanted the four regions from the outset, and to argue that his special military operation was a success after all. He chose not to take that opportunity.
