Mike Davis: Leonard Leo Sat On The Sidelines During All The Lawfare Against President Trump
RealClear Politics ^ | 5/30/25 | Tim Hains

"Article III Project" founder Mike Davis and "War Room" host Steve Bannon comment on the role the Federalist Society and its chairman Leonard Leo played in the first Trump administration and how this term will be different.

MIKE DAVIS: Yeah, when you have Leonard Leo taking over a billion dollars—I think it was like $1.6 billion—from a billionaire who gave him his fortune, Barre Seid, and then Leonard sat on the sidelines with all that money for three years of lawfare and didn’t support groups that were helping President Trump with the lawfare.

He actually had guys out there like Ed Whelan, who Leonard funds, undermining President Trump during this lawfare. Ed Whelan continues to undermine President Trump with Emil Bove and other judicial nominees.

I don’t know what Leonard’s doing. He funded the anti-RFK campaign for HHS secretary. He’s fighting against President Trump on tariffs.

I think Leonard Leo needs to remember that he was a nobody before President Trump named him as his judge picker in 2016. Then Leonard Leo got very wealthy after that. You go from making a couple hundred thousand a year at the Federalist Society to flying around in private jets and having $8 million homes in Maine. He got very wealthy from this.

You would think that after you’ve gotten very wealthy off of President Trump, you could at least give President Trump the loyalty of keeping your mouth shut.

With the exception of half a dozen law professors and attorneys, the entire law profession, both practicing and in academia, sat on the sideline as the left waged lawfare against Trump and his associates/supporters. So-called conservative attorneys were silent as the left went against the few attorneys that supported or represented Trump.

Leonard Leo and the Federalist Society brought us Justice Amy Coney Barret.

Now that Trump is President again, they want a say-so in his judicial appointments. I agree with Trump. Ignore them this time around and listen to the Article III project instead.

interesting. i thought it was mcconman who did all the picking for Trump last time around. i guess it was really this guy Leo who did all the damage. mcconman was just the signoff guy. i did wonder why mcconman was so gung ho, in a hurry to confirm all these Trump/Leo picks. now i know.

Never trusted the Federalist Society even though I’ve not heard this name before. Put him in the same category as the National Review...”People who think they’re smarter than Trump and definitely “more conservative”.

Keep track of them and post directions to piss on their graves when they’re gone.

Leo and the Federalist Society are just more of the DC grifter class. He got a salary of 400k a year for a decade or more.

People like him are the enemies of anything positive for regular middle class Americans.

The Federalist Society used to be a really conservative group, but then it got taken over by RINOs and started shifting left. The group could have really had an effect on the lawfare against Trump if they had wanted to. Instead, they were silent or complicit in the left’s legal war against Trump and his associates.

Also, that group should have been the loudest in objecting to the Constitutional violations against the Jan 6 defendants but once again, they were silent.

i remember hearing about this Federalist Society listening to the Levin show back in the day when i joined the tea party and was getting back into politics. the financial collapse and our gov’t’s corrupt response, bailing out the big banks, brought many of us apolitical types back into politics at that time in the tea party.

anyway Levin used to have this senator DeMint on his show a bunch and, IIRC, he quit the senate to become the president of this so called DC ‘think tank.’ just that term raised my hackles, but that’s really all i knew about the group.

DeMint seemed like an ok guy. they apparently kicked him out of the GOP senate club and he got depressed. maybe they kicked him out of the Federalist Society, too, for this guy Leo. and that should have been the warning to Trump, but he never listened to us tea partyers back in the day. he went GOPe and payed the price with the bushies, pence, mcconman, lyin’ ryan, etc.

i heard the great R. Reagan may have started it on Levin, but like all DC things it was bound to go bad with time in that cesspool.

Leonard Leo picked the candidates.

Mitch McConnell approved/disapproved the candidates.

President Trump nominated the candidates.

The senate confirmed the candidates.

Davis trying to cash in. No allegiance to the Constitution or rule of law. Just plain toadying to power.
