The Department of Labor on Thursday announced it has paused its Job Corps operations, cautioning that the program has issues with student safety and fiscal sustainability.
“Job Corps was created to help young adults build a pathway to a better life through education, training, and community,” Department of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer said in a written statement. “However, a startling number of serious incident reports and our in-depth fiscal analysis reveal the program is no longer achieving the intended outcomes that students deserve.”
The Department of Labor just released its first-of-its-kind Job Corps Transparency Report, using data from program year 2023, which found concerning results.
The Job Corps program is a federally funded residential career training and education program that is often popular with unions and centered around low-income young adults.
The report found that the average graduation rate for the program is only 32 percent. After graduating from the program, participants only earned $16,000 annually, which is barely above the poverty line.
More so, the program often suffers from safety issues, as there were 14,913 incident reports in 2023, even though there were only 25,000 participants.

I also can explain a lot in this in story.
Job Corps is not your local Publik Skool okay? Let's make that clear right now.
Okay from the article two key points:
"More so, the program often suffers from safety issues, as there were 14,913 incident reports in 2023, even though there were only 25,000 participants"
and from this article posted recently
https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4314047/posts
"The Job Corps has only a 32% graduation rate, though statistics have typically been calculated using a misleading definition of “graduate,” which bumped the number up slightly to 39%. Of about 30,000 enrollees in the 2023-24 school year, roughly 10,000 were expelled for misconduct,"
Okay Yes I was in Job Corps and I do remember that. Job Corps had ZERO TOLERANCE for things like fighting or drugs unlike our public schools. I saw kids come there and in 48 hours or less, would beat up another kid and Job Corps put that kid on a bus and sent him or her home. I could not believe how retarded some of those kids could be and throw away a chance like that but they did it all the three years I was there. This was back in the 90's so I'm sure not much has changed and it's gotten worse.
Also from the previous article:
"Job Corps participants earn $16,695 per year on average after leaving the program, according to new government data. "
WHY IS THIS? Oh wait I think I know. Let me explain. One of the classes taught at Job Corps? Carpentry, as in house building. Roofing stuff like that. Sounds to me that kind of job would earn a person a lot of money. Yet..yet...here lately I've posted videos by Cash Jordan et al where ICE has gone in and busted construction sites where all the employees were NOT Job Corps and were illegals. Do you all see where I am going with this? Not only are Job Corps grads not working but Americans not working.
I suspect there is more to this story. Honestly you all I'd rather have Job Corps than the public schools. Divert money from the public schools if we have to but keep Job Corps.
If you all have any more questions about Job Corps feel free to ask me.
Unfortunately, today the vast majority of high schoolers are incredibly stupid.
Teachers deserve a large chunk of blame so do the disinterested parents.
Why should career training programs be residential? That seems to really inflate the cost of such a program.
Construction uses illegal for only one reason and we all know what that is, and it isn’t because American’s won’t do it...
Cheap labor, ignoring safety, and no insurance prices out Americans. I knew a guy who had done construction most of his life told me he finally quit because he didn’t speak Spanish and they stopped hiring him because of that.
CETA-remember that? Comprehensive Education and Training Act. Like Head Start it didn’t work. Guys showed up at 8am drunk.
I do believe Reagan got rid of it.
Peace Corps/Americorps. ‘Educated’ young folks who have ‘made it’ going into poor areas to assuage their guilt at being born middle class. Turns them into lifetime leftists-(their mission).
Don’t forget midnight basketball.
Getting get to kids out of the ghetto, away from drugged friends and gangs has a lot of value. That is why the program is residential
Job Corps does lots of great things, especially for vulnerable populations.
As Morgana has noted, the COUNTRY has failed these kids.
Flooding the country with illegal labor, not prosecuting those businesses that hire those illegals, and pushing the “everyone goes to College” crap.
Kid from a difficult background, learns an employable skill, gets a decent paying job to start, develops some confidence and deserved respect from hard work. We need a whole bunch more of this.
MAGA is the basis for just this kind of direction.
Housing them with a lot of fellow delinquents clearly doesn’t work.
It’s not authorized by the Constitution.
End it.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
residential experience fits better for careers in ballot harvesting or vote mules
Ah, gotchya!
Check
1969— A fresh faced young David Vandreissen pulls into a dirt-poor Appalachian wide spot in the road driving his older Lincoln.
He spies an old fellow lounging on the porch of a shack.
“Hello sir!”
“Whatchoo want boy?”
“Well, I’m with the war on poverty, And I’m here to help.”
The old fellow looks over at his car.
“Waaal, it shor looks like you won.”
Not to diminish your success in the Job Corps program, but our Federal Government has no place trying to usurp obligations or responsibilities of a community, or at the most the States.
Hear, hear!!!
My High School had a Vocational Education cooperative with several other districts. Auto shop, wood shop, electrical training, plumbing, beauty school for the girls, and they had a low power FM radio station and a TV production facility.
Half days at “regular” school and a half day there.

The one near me is in very western North Carolina — I have no idea if most of the students are from the Cherokee Indian Reservation...if not it’s probably a long drive to their homes.
Maybe the idea is to keep the kids away from their gangs...not sure.
It’s a wonderful program!! I would hope and pray Trump would fix any problems with it
