>> Bitch should have been fired DECADES AGO for sucking up to the feds, rather than considering the needs of her customers. Basically made her brand the Bud Lite of automobiles.

IIRC, Bitch was HIRED SPECIFICALLY to drive Government Motors into Wokeville back when they went Full Government. Too big to fail, you know. Wasn’t that on Bammy’s watch?

“better fuel economy and reduce emissions by utilizing “new combustion and thermal management innovations.”

I am wondering how they are going to do that. They already have them running so lean and hot they are just below melting temp...

Also tells you a lot when they’re producing from plants located in a high cost state like NY. Figures why vehicle costs have increased so much.

Also, Tonawanda is in depressed upstate.
Upstate on NY is a sad story. It does not have the NYC location, but it is being destroyed by the same politics.

When I was about 14 my neighbor about the same age had gotten his grandfathers 1950 Olds 88 supposedly to drive when he turned 16. But for the year he had it with no license, he would take it down to the foot of the driveway and floor it all until he could just barely stop before crashing into the garage. Just a couple hundred feet but he must have done it a thousand times. Hilarious. The neighbors hated it - I thought it was very cool.

Actually I was thinking of someone else here, but don’t want to name him.

“valve lifter failures, which can also cause the camshaft to fail ... crankshaft bearing failures.”

With the materials available, the manufacturing expertise and machine tools, plus testing of parts and final assembly, there’s no excuse for a poor mechanical product.

I wonder how long the tax breaks (bribes) will stay in effect - GM should have used a more business-friendly State...

Maybe in the future electric cars will be just a blip in history the same way steam and electric were back in the early days of the automobile.

GM had been making engines in Tonawanda for like 90 years.
There is the know how and the infrastructure there.
UAW contracts stipulate the same rates, regardless of location so the labor cost is the same as anywhere else.
They may have problems with EV as the engine is totally different.

It doesn’t take a college genius to realize that an undersized engine with a turbo to make up for lost power is a bad idea. Could have told you that a long time ago. Somebody listens to all the wrong people. A turbo is great for a racecar, but never ever count on it for longevity with an undersized, under built engine.

I’ve had 4 Ford diesels, one 350 and three 250’s, each went over 300k miles. Only one needed a repair which was $2100 (secondary injector line went out). The 250’s on the highway on flat ground (no trailer) I would get 20+ mpg.

Too bad that they don’t remember how to build a good one.

(Recent issues with cyl deactivation, wet belts, piston rings, overly-light oil, all failed measures to increase gas mileage)

...and the 283!

YES! The 283, ran hot, cold and forever! Had one in my 1966 Chevy Bel Air. 30 below and she would turn over like it was in the desert!

AMC had great straight 6s. My dad had a ‘68 Rambler Rogue with a 232ci and I got my mom’s ‘81 Spirit with a 258ci. That car took me on a tour of Quebec, two 24hr drives down to Naples Fla., an oak tree hit, and I still sold it with 118,000 miles on it for $800. It reminded me of Mad Max’s Interceptor. I was the Road Warrior.

Rip out the afm lifters and you’ve got a great engine.

And the solution to the bearing failures is just thicker oil.

Both problems caused by the mindless pursuit of fuel economy above all else.
