This summer, solar power generation globally could exceed electricity from nuclear power plants for the first time ever, as solar capacity soars and sunlight and daylight hours are long in the northern hemisphere.
Global solar power generation jumped by 34% in the first quarter of 2025 from the same period in 2024, according to data from Ember cited by Reuters columnist Gavin Maguire.
If the pace of growth is sustained though June, July, and August, solar output is set to top 260 terawatt hours (TWh) in the summer months. This would beat the average 223 TWh of global nuclear power generation from 2024, Maguire notes.
Last year, record growth in renewables led by solar helped push clean power above 40% of global electricity in 2024, Ember said in its Global Electricity Review 2025 last month. However, heatwave-related demand spikes led to a small increase in fossil generation, too, the clean energy think tank said.
“Solar generation has maintained its high growth rate, doubling in the last three years, and adding more electricity than any other source over that period,” Ember’s analysts wrote in the report.
More than half, or 53%, of the increase in solar generation in 2024 was in China.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Eventually oil, coal & natural gas stockpiles will be used up. These resources are not renewed by nature for millions of years. At that time, 200 to 400 years from now, solar power will be a major source. But currently solar & wind power are more expensive than from fossil fuels. Therefore USA businesses are at a competitive disadvantage when forced to use green power.
Uh huh... now do reliability.

well,, if ccp says so it must be true....right ?
pure propaganda.
During the day, sunny days.
The problem here is actually not enough nuclear power.
disclosure: I have a 10 KW solar system and a battery on my home and love it. BUT I am a realist and knew what I was getting into.
Peaceful Nuke tech will rule.
How many thousands of acres destroyed?
Until the Chinese Communist Party flips the switch ,LOL
“Solar Power Set to Surpass Nuclear Generation This Summer”
Solar Power Set to fail this winter
There, fixed it
Great we are on the way to free power for daytime air conditioning for summer and heat on clear winter days. I expect sub artic conditions at anyplace with a flat roof as the cooling should be banked as much as possible 6am-6pm. With panels costing about 1/2 as much as they did 5 years ago, the only shortage is the people qualified to put the pieces together without destroying a commercial roof, new buildings really should already mount some ibeams to hold any racking system.
Already have 12 400w pannels in the back yard that offset summertime cooling needs and power the fountains on the ponds. Still waiting for my power company to go variable rate plan, then Ill add more storage, or just park a used grid attached tesla under a solar carport and timeshift power as early adopter all winter long, just like tivo. Wholesale power rates are already zero at noon from April - Oct.
Utility, please tell me when you want me to take only transport charge power off the grid.
The only way I can be talked into solar and/or wind for the grid is if there are hydrocarbon fueled plants waiting on standby to kick in when solar and wind won't do. One FReeper in Texas said that Texas does that.
ya, lets see solar out produce nuclear at midnight.
For every Solar Reliant System each Afternoon is a Death Race against Darkness.
34% in one year?.. that’s one hell of a big jump in one year.
For 7 hours a day, Solar is cheaper than anything else for 2/3s of the USA. For an Unknown number of hours per day Wind is cheaper than anything else in just about every state. In specfic locations Nuclear (under a 1975-2000 rules, in the midwest) is cheaper than coal or NG. In specific months NG is cheaper than coal. And the cheapest of all, water at a dam, may or may not be in the delivery footprint of the consumer, and once a decade need to be curtailed.
The utility has to give us a clue when power can be taken off the grid at .04c/KWH (DYI solar cannot match that) and when they would rather we not take a KWH. 99% of us can figure out how to cool our house during that time to ice box and turn off the AC, washer/dryer 6pm-11pm. Its the week before memorial day, and I was mining crypto at a loss to take the chill out of the air.
If they did an actual plan on how appliances figure out if cost of power is high/low, refrigerators, water heaters, ventilation could make intelligent choices.
Hmmm...I wonder which comes out better after a hail storm?
Wind/solar power generation makes the power grid a ton weaker any little hiccup and down it goes
Except at night ...
Nuclear energy requires finding nuclear materials. I do not how much of that supply is available and how long it will last. My gut feeling is longer than oil & gas & coal will last.
