Washington — President Trump met Wednesday with key conservative holdouts to the massive budget package containing his second-term agenda, before GOP leaders made concessions to fiscal hawks and blue-state Republicans — as leadership aims to hold a vote on the bill possibly within hours.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, returned from the meeting between Mr. Trump and members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, calling it "productive." Johnson said the plan is still to move forward as expected, with the details of the final version of the legislation unveiled later Wednesday.

"There's not much changing here, because the underlying product we thought was so well done," Johnson told reporters ahead of its release.

Timing for a floor vote remained in flux. Johnson had said the vote could happen Wednesday night or Thursday morning. And House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, a Louisiana Republican, said he expected the vote would take place Wednesday night.

"We've got to keep the bill moving," Scalise said. "Because there's a lot more steps in the process. The Senate, of course, has to go and do their work."

Before the legislation could move to the floor, it had to make it through the Rules Committee, which advanced the measure late Wednesday after a nearly 21-hour session. The committee began meeting shortly after 1 a.m. early Wednesday morning, and continued meeting late into the night Wednesday. Eighteen hours after the committee began meeting, House Republican leadership unveiled a "manager's amendment," which included highly anticipated changes to the legislation that had been negotiated in recent days.

The developments on Wednesday came after Mr. Trump also met Tuesday morning with House Republicans as leaders ramped up their efforts to push the bill forward.

The president put pressure on members to fall in line Tuesday as the party's...

Massie just spoke on McGovern’s side. He’s dead to me. McGovern just lost his daughter, but socialism is more important to him. I would lose it if I were there.

Are the NFA fixes included? Or are they still “compromised” out?

Johnson is so full of crap they ought to call him Walking Eagle. Trump submitted a putrid 7% deficit budget, exceeding even Biden’s atrocious 6% deficits.

The cumulative additions are so big, the long bond is starting to creep up. In an echo of the 80s, we may see double digit mortgage rates in the decade ahead, thanks to these crazy budget deficits.

There’s zero reason to tack on any additional deficit above Trump’s first term 3% baseline.

We went from a $4.5T budget in 2019 to a “one time only” $6.5T budget and then we just keep spending the extra $2T. We could certainly go down to $5T or certainly $5.5T without any big hangover.

It’s the same old same old same old Washington. Spend us to oblivion and spend us to bankruptcy. Trump ran on cutting waste, fraud and abuse. As much as I support him I cannot suppport ANY budget over 1 trillion. People will try to justify this because it’s Trump. They’ll hem, they’ll haw but the underlying problem remains the exact same; we have a spending problem in Washington. This time Trump is at the center of it.

If our ultimate goal is to get spending under control, restoring regular order is the first step.

Budgets are controlled by careful committee work.

No careful committee work is taking place right now.

Why condemn Trump on the issue of deficit spending when the House’s Power of the Purse is being exclusively exercised by Continuing Resolution, after Continuing Resolution, after Continuing Resolution....

Rollins, the rich, brainless AG Sec, just put out her new small Farmer BS, loans, and services links. No bread and butter FIXES Like Cal-Maine’s Bird Flu Fraud, Battery Cages killing hens, both layers and meat. Get reimbursed under the BF fraud program. They shred 3-day-old Roosters as useless.

While USPS employees abandon day-old chicks from hatcheries to die. Brazil, where President Trump was importing eggs from, just announced Bird Flu.

Glad I raise my own. No dead birds of any type to be seen. Unless they are Road Kill. The next step is to eliminate TS as the source of chicks.

Did you hear yourself, Margret? errr Jarhead?

No budget over a trillion?

Really?

The budget for the defense department is a trillion, the debt is $36 TRILLION and you want a trillion dollar budget?

Did you mis-print?

I heard it very clearly and I’m very clear in what I said. Our defense budget shouldn’t be anywhere close to this. That is a war machine budget either developing outdated strategies with more jets vs. an overhaul with a drone force or deployed all over the world where we shouldn’t be and staying with the status quo.

The holdouts are grand standing jerks.

They only show up for publicity. 99% of thd time they say nothing abd actually help the Dems get their way.

All of the waste DOGE finds they voted for.
