An Egyptian fisherman who helped organise the movement of more than 3,000 migrants as part of a £12 million illegal boat crossing operation has been jailed for 25 years.
UK-based Ahmed Ebid, 42, was involved in smuggling nearly 3,800 people from North Africa to Italy between October 2022 and June 2023, with some making their way to Britain, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said.
Ebid is the first person in the UK to be convicted of being involved in people smuggling across the Mediterranean Sea from Africa to Italy.
He arrived in the UK on a small boat in 2022 after spending five years in jail in Italy for attempted drug smuggling. He applied for asylum in the UK but never received a decision.
That meant he had been in legal limbo, neither facing removal nor being granted permission to stay. His sentence means he will almost certainly be deported once it has been served.
Ebid, whose wife and sons are in the UK, had been living in Home Office-funded accommodation in south-west London at the time of his arrest.

Let him spend his sentence treading water in The Channel.
L
Should be drawn and quartered
He trafficked 3,800 people and no one knew about it? Sure.
Why would they jail him? They LOVE getting overrun by uneducated third-worlders. He was just doing the government’s bidding for them. He should get a government paycheck and maybe a bonus for exemplary performance and outstanding achievement.
“ Why would they jail him?”
You’re correct. He’s only doing what everyone there wants. Probably really smuggled in ten thousand or more.
Let this be a lesson to all human traffickers in the UK, failure to pay off the appropriate officials will result in severe criminal penalties ...
Speaking of the UK, I understand the High Court has reduced Tommy Robinson’s eighteen month sentence by 4 months, and he is soon to be released. Robinson, who has been outspoken about unfettered immigration and the rape gangs, has been in solitary confinement for several months now.
All of these posters talking about the ways the government needs to torture and kill him.
It’s worth considering that these same governments launched the EU war against Syria and supported ISIS. Those launched the waves of migrants. These governments welcomed them with open arms, met them at sea and brought them into ports, gave them money, harassed the few nations that refused them. Arrested their own citizens that protested it...etc.
So they decide to crack the whip on the guy with the motorboats? Hell, there is a very good chance the EU sold him the giant inflatable boats and motors.
Clownworld.
