A prominent critic of President Donald Trump sends what would appear to be a coded message: They subtly display four digits: an “86” followed by the two digits that denote Trump’s presidency.
But the year is not 2025 with former FBI director James B. Comey; it’s 2020 with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D). While Comey on Thursday stoked controversy by posting a photo of seashells arranged in a formation of “86 47,” Whitmer engaged in a similar form of political protest five years ago. She appeared on television with a tiny “86 45” pin displayed on the table next to her.
The number “86” is generally slang for to get rid of something. The number 47 is shorthand for Trump’s second presidency — the 47th in U.S. history — as 45 is for his first one.
But the reactions to these episodes have been very different on the right and within the Trump administration.
Today, top Trump administration officials, allies and Trump himself have accused Comey of threatening Trump with assassination in his now-deleted post and even launched an investigation. On top of that, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and others have gone so far as to say Comey should be jailed.
Five years ago, the Trump campaign and some allies briefly suggested Whitmer was alluding to violence, but the episode quickly passed. There is no evidence Trump’s Justice Department investigated it.
So what has changed?

If I could print this out and wipe after my next duece, I would.
Comes posted that 8,647 (86 47) days after 911.
If it’s OK for him to do that, it’s OK for me to say cwii.
CWII. For C. Wyatt II, who I once worked with.
What Comey did is not a crime. That said, he is an ass and deserves every bit of scorn thrown his way.
Are they effing kidding?
Alex Soros too... that makes three of 'em.
“What Comey did is not a crime.”
Make it a crime and lock him up, much like he worked to do to Trump.
Could’ve been a “go” signal.
86WP
In the restaurant industry, 86 means you’re out of a menu item. Maybe Comey is not a fan of Moo Goo Gai Pan.
I remember when Sarah Palin had crosshairs on her website and for weeks the media demanded Republicans tone down the violent rhetoric.
Last paragraph from Merriam-Webster after explaining the history of the term. I grew up thinking it meant to kill someone (80’s-90’s).
“Among the most recent senses adopted is a logical extension of the previous ones, with the meaning of “to kill.” We do not enter this sense, due to its relative recency and sparseness of use.
“I hate to see the guys always getting eighty-sixed,” she said, using military jargon for killed in action. “Not fair.”
— John Kifner, The New York Times, 3 Feb. 1991
The most common meaning of eighty-six encountered today is the one that is closer to its service industry roots (“to refuse to serve a customer”). Given how many meanings the term has picked up in less than a century of use, however, it’s anyone’s guess as to what meanings it will pick up in the decades to come.”
Gretchen W. seems to have a less severe form of TDS, when compared to people like Letitia (McEvil), Jim Comey and Hillary Clinton. Whitmer is better known for her rude, though ultimately benign episodes of ‘Bad Behavior’, such as when she feigned giving a kneeling woman a ‘Communion Host’, or like that other time, when she used an elaborate ruse to apparently fake being kidnapped. Personal motive on that one remains unclear.
Whitless and her “fellow” Coven witches [Sec of State, AG],
Represent Satan.
Rats deserve no benefit of the doubt. This swamp rat needs to be dragged out of his home at 4am with the cameras rolling. These are the new rules they created, make them live by it.
“Make it a crime and lock him up, much like he worked to do to Trump.”
That would be an unconstitutional ex post facto law.
Quite frankly, the ignorance (or stupidity) of the current generation of Freepers is alarming.
Lawfare Rulz these daze.
I'm not seeing the relevance here.
“What Comey did is not a crime.”
Make it a crime and lock him up, much like he worked to do to Trump.
???
Like Bragg did, like James did, like Smith did
