New Jersey Transit train engineers went on strike Friday, leaving an estimated 350,000 commuters in New Jersey and New York City to seek other means to reach their destinations or consider staying home.
The walkout comes after the latest round of negotiations on Thursday didn’t produce an agreement. It is the state’s first transit strike in more than 40 years and comes a month after union members overwhelmingly rejected a labor agreement with management.
“We presented them the last proposal; they rejected it and walked away with two hours left on the clock,” said Tom Haas, general chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
NJ Transit leadership, though, disputes the union’s data, saying the engineers have average total earnings of $135,000 annually, with the highest earners exceeding $200,000."
Keep voting for dem-o-rats you fools.
Gotta LOVE THE LABOR UNIONS!!!!
Let’s see when our local FR Shop Steward shows up to defend the unions again!!
I don’t think I’d suggest using a flight through Newark as an alternate access point.
Government labor unions should be illegal.
Phil Murphy is on it!!
“Government labor unions should be illegal.”
ALL labor unions need to be illegal. If you don’t like your job, find another job. If you’re forced to work under dangerous conditions, there are PLENTY OF LAWS and PLENTY OF LAWYERS that will take your case on contingency. It’s not the 1920s anymore, not by a long-shot - there is absolutely NO NEED for unions, of any type (other than maybe Border Patrol - those guys are cool).
Unions often state their “salaries” as the hourly compensation.
Companies state their “total expense per employee.” This often includes taxes, pensions, insurance, etc.
Usually the “expense per employee” is about 30-35% more than the monetary compensation.
Yeah well I don’t give a crap if a bunch of hollywood writers or hotel maids want to bargain collectively. That’s a private matter. I do care when unelected bureaucrats and union leaders get together and bargain with my money and cripple vital services. Fire them all and bring in scabs and union busting thugs like the 1920s.
Agree all around - no one person or entity should have a monopoly on labor.
Where’s Ronald Reagan when you need him?
CHECK
President John F. Kennedy was the first to formally recognize the right of federal employees to unionize and engage in collective bargaining. In 1962.
Th3 commuters will probably sue the transit authority now for wages lost, and of course “pain and suffering” lol
But-—but muh public mass transportation——
“Yeah well I don’t give a crap if a bunch of Hollywood writers or hotel maids want to bargain collectively. That’s a private matter.
I do care because I end up paying for their bloated wages or I’m forced to buy Japanese cars, since they’re actually able to spend money on development, quality control, and proper materials selection - simply because they weren’t forced to overpay their workers or deal with strikes.
I’m also not too hot on (indirectly) financing the Democrats if I do buy US cars.
From Fox News Tucker Carlson Tonight, April 15, 2020
10:37 >> Tucker:
Congregants at a synagogue in New Jersey were arrested and charged for being in a synagogue together.
The Bill of Rights, as you well know, protects Americans' right, enshrines their right to practice their religion as they see fit and to congregate together to assemble peacefully.
By what authority did you nullify the Bill of Rights in issuing this order?
How do you have the power to do that?
>> Murphy:
That’s above my pay grade, Tucker. So I wasn’t thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this.
NJ governor ignores Bill of Rights in exclusive Tucker interview (YouTube)
Hopefully this will be one more thing that pushes NJ voters to vote Republican for governor this year.
