White House requests $46.5 billion for border wall construction (in the Big Beautiful Bill)

More border wall spots could pop up should Congress give President Donald Trump the money to build 700 additions miles, 900 miles of river barriers, and 630 miles of secondary walls — part of a bigger bill that includes the White House’s proposed tax breaks and spending cuts.

The House committee in charge of drafting Trump’s border security bill is asking for about $69 billion, a substantial part of which ($46.5 billion), would go to border barriers...

...House Speaker Mike Johnson has said he wants to have a vote on the issue by Memorial Day.

This would represent enough money up front, to effectively finish the job, during President Trump's term in office. Not every remote mile would have Trump-style physical barriers, but the great bulk would, and all of it would have the surveillance, alarms and response capability to exert full operational control over the border with Mexico.

It appears that the complex right of way issues in Texas are being avoided by putting 900 miles of barrier in the river, allowing rapid closure of huge stretches of the border.

And the river barriers are cheap compared to all other forms of “”Haul your a** back to where you came from” walls.

Anyone who complains should be reminded it would have been 1/10th the price had it been approved in Trump’s first term.

It is necessary.

As far as costs, put a price on Biden allowing 15 million illegals in and the cost of them staying and being removed.

The words "could" and "should" should not exist in this paragraph. There must be zero question about funding to complete the border wall. There must be zero question about funding to man and patrol every inch of the wall. This is the first and primary responsibility of the federal government, which taxes the hell out of us to squander on random BS.

If Mike Johnson and John Thune won't do their jobs and get their caucuses in line for the border wall, WinRed can kiss my butt. They'll never see another penny from me.

“As far as costs, put a price on Biden allowing 15 million illegals in”

I would swag this $46 Billion for the wall to equal a few months of the cost of Biden’s illegals.

“Could” and “should” are the reporters words. Border Patrol has been analyzing the requirement intensively since the beginning of President Trump’s first term. They know exactly what the job entails.

Like President Trump’s first term wall system design specifications, this new construction program represents the top of the line option, with everything the Border Patrol wanted.

Keeping them out or us in?

I’d like to see as much diligence applied to removing 40 million illegals, though that doesn’t appear to be in the Trump cards.

He won’t get it.

The Republicans are back in 2018 mode. They’ll vote for nothing.

Goodbye 2026.

Wouldn’t about 50 million land mines be cheaper? Asking for a friend.

We will be off to the races quickly building new wall, once the money is appropriated.

Everyone involved is ready.

“Wouldn’t about 50 million land mines be cheaper?”

They just don’t last as long, and need to be refreshed repeatedly. They endanger Border Patrol officers, and are politically and logistically much easier for a future Administration to remove, if they wanted to.
