US President Donald Trump on Wednesday had tea with a former jihadist who until recently had a $10 million US bounty on his head.
Interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, once known by his militant nom de guerre Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, met Trump in Riyadh six months after leading a swift campaign that toppled the half-a-century-old Assad regime, ejecting Iran-backed armed groups and declaring himself leader of the country.
Al Sharaa was placed on the US Specially Designated Global Terrorist list in 2013 for heading al Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria, known as Al Nusra Front, and allegedly orchestrating suicide bombings across Syria. The Saudi-born former jihadist had spent years fighting US forces in Iraq before moving to Syria to lead an armed Islamist rebellion that ousted the brutal dictator Bashar al-Assad.

Elements in Syria who are murdering and enslaving Christians and other minorities (probably with tacit Syrian government clearance) need to be IMMEDIATELY stopped by the Syrian authorities.
If Syria can be brought in from the cold, and flipped from its longstanding Soviet/Russian alignment to a pro-American/Pro-Western alignment, that would be a major geostrategic coup.
- The possibility of peace with Israel would be much greater.
- possibility of Russia maintaining its Naval Base at Tartus would be much less.
- The possibility of pipelines running from the Gulf Countries to the Mediterranean and Europe, bypassing Suez Canal fees and greatly reducing transportation costs, would also be greater.

That is a major obstacle to bringing Syria into the community of nations of the Free World.
Getting those young men, who have spent years as gun carrying revolutionaries, attractive civilian careers, would be a big deal in changing the direction of that society.

Problem is, Syria needs a lot of help and they have no assets or resources to move forward. Turkey has either the resources or the inclination to try to support Syria in any.
So at this point, everything in Syria is up for grabs and a US-Saudi alliance to come in and stabilize and de facto control Syria is the best outcome we hope for

Blackrock was there with him, CEOs of Amazon, Google, Palantir, the AI companies, NVIDIA, Coca-Cola, etc... hell even that leftist pig Reid Hoffman was there that funded the prosecutions of Trump.
When they are all safely embedded in their deals... they will end the party at the mid-terms and neutralize him with a democratic congress with investigations and impeachments followed by prosecutions.

It is a big challenge, but if anybody can work out a deal to get it done, President Trump would be my bet.

Let’s hope that the Syrian government will do its utmost to protect Christians, Jews and other religious minorities in the country. One hopeful sign is that the Jewish synagogue in Damascus, said to be the oldest synagogue in the world, will be repaired.
