President Trump said in an interview aired Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" with Kristen Welker that he'd give TikTok relief if a deal isn't struck during the already extended timeframe.
The big picture: Trump, who attempted to ban TikTok during his first term due to national security concerns, has pushed to keep the app alive in the U.S. despite bipartisan concerns about national security risks due to the app's ties to China.
Driving the news: "Perhaps I shouldn't say this, but I have a little warm spot in my heart for TikTok," Trump said.
Trump said he'd like to see a deal, but he'd be willing to give the Chinese-owned app a reprieve despite not having made a deal with the social media platform's owner, ByteDance.
Trump said he has a "little sweet spot" for the app, claiming he won young people by 36 points. He's made that statement in the past, though, as CNN fact checker Daniel Dale notes, Vice President Kamala Harris beat Trump 54% to 43% among voters ages 18-24, per exit polls published by CNN. Trump's TikTok flip-flop ahead of last year's election was a sign that he recognized the appeal the app has for young people.
Catch up quick: Legislation passed by Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court would have required ByteDance to divest the wildly popular app by mid-January, but Trump kicked the deadline back to April 5 with an executive order.
Then, last month, he delayed the ban again. Trump said in a Truth Social post last month that his administration had "made tremendous progress" toward a TikTok deal.
In March, he suggested to reporters he might give China a "little reduction in tariffs or something to get it done."

At this point, TikTok can just refuse to give in. And it appears that's what they're doing.
So is china spying on America with tik tok or not? Why the obsession with keeping it around? A few years ago it was spying and on US and brain rot by spreading Chinese propaganda. Now its fine? Odd turn of events. I can only assume its not spying on US, if it was, surely Trump would shut it down.
Who the hell knows at this point. Either it’s a national security threat as he stated in his executive order or just fine.

What’s changed since?
FReepers have discussed on other threads that we've given the government too much power.
Fortunately, Trump is the POTUS. But we know that we have him for the next four years.
Then what?
The government can ban any website or app as long as they say it's "Chinese".

Trump has no constitutional authority to extend the shutdown of TikTok.
He is breaking the law.
The question was, what has changed since Trump said it was a national security threat.
Just about all the social media sites have a TikTok like platform included.
It is poison. It is giving 100000 black pieces of garbage a voice and influence, and all they are peddling is their typical brand of "justUS" delusions., lies, anger, hate and violence. EVERY fast food meltdown, EVERY sucker punch., EVERY "kill Whitey", every looting spree, every act of degeneracy is given some sort of legitimacy because of the platform. Today's Rage of the Day: blacks (and white women) threatening to kill the South African refugees. That took over Mother's day violence, where I saw a car being driven through the front of a dollar store. a SUV running over 5-6 people, shootings, service workers being attacked, which took over praising Karmelo and promising more stabbings and shootings.
It's also pornographic in some cases, and just retarded in others. It is addictive and it is meant to dumb down already stupid people, and turn them trans, too.
Of course, it also is a data mining operation.
What is Trump's obsession with this POISON? Just KILL IT.

Allowing the government to decide which means of communication are allowed is a dangerous path to go down. If people are breaking the law by misusing it prosecute them.
