Vermont halts electric vehicle requirements as governor says ‘current goals’ not realistic

Vermont Governor Phil Scott paused the state’s electric vehicle sales requirements for passenger cars and medium and heavy-duty trucks on Tuesday, amid broader concerns about the feasibility of zero-emission vehicle rules pioneered by California.

Vermont is one of 11 states including New York, Maryland and Massachusetts that have adopted California’s zero-emission vehicle rules, which seek to end the sale of gasoline-only vehicles by 2035. California’s rules require 35% of light-duty vehicles in the 2026 model year to be zero-emission models.

Scott, a Republican, cited warnings from automakers that they could limit supply of gas-powered vehicles to dealers in the state because of the EV rules.

The pendulum swings...People finally wising up....Man cannot control climate. We need a balance of oxygen and co2 for food and people to survive.

More people = more food = more co2. It's a pretty simple equation.

Scott Republican governor and socialist Bernie.

Scott is a RINO on many issues.

But then, since the hippy invasion in the 1960s, it is almost impossible for a real repub to get elected to state office.

You cannot power modern civilization on wind and solar. And the central planning of the sort forcing everyone into EVs was shown to be very, very stupid by all sorts of Communists in the 20th Century.

Much less a fighter jet or a tank.

These "NetZero" types are just fifth columnists for the former Soviet Union now ChiComs.

Unless and until a method of Cold Fusion can be discovered and utilized then the electric vehicle mandate will never be realistic.
It never was. Nothing but a fantasy.

Not only that but wait until EV owners start paying for battery disposals. The cost will skyrocket more than the sticker price of the vehicle, giving rise to an epidemic of illegal dumping causing an unprecedented environmental calamity worse than the Exxon Valdez.

These morons never think things through, everything is an emotional knee-jerk reaction to things they don’t understand.

“Scott, a Republican...”

So he’s now joining all of the Democrats in dumping the EV Mandate - about time!

...hmmm, wait, what Democrats? Those other states are run by Democrats, yet NONE OF THEM have dumped their EV Mandate.

Sounds to me that perhaps THERE IS a difference between the parties after all. Naaa, can’t be, the Purists here insist that anything less than a perfect Republican on EVERY ISSUE is no different than a Democrat.

Right, Purists?

It sounds like the governor finally figured out that Vermont has severe winters—which means that electric vehicles are useless for three months of the year.

I hope at least one state goes for it — to demonstrate the stupidity of the leftist climate fools for all the world to see.

The goals were never realistic but what was really unrealistic was the product. It was all a con job from day one and people got paid billions.

When I last checked there are companies already making hydrocarbons (including gasoline) from atmospheric carbon dioxide and water. No real need to get hydrocarbons from their earthly deposits. Ultimate recycling.
Libs are SO far behind the “real solutions to problems” curve.
In the future(if we last) they will be looked upon as delusional chicken littles.

True. On Free Republic, most Republicans are derided as RINO, and considered useless
