RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — President Donald Trump in a speech in Saudi Arabia urged Iran to take a “new and a better path” as he pushes for a new nuclear deal.
Trump said at the U.S.-Saudi investment conference, during a four-day Middle East trip, that he wants to avoid conflict with Tehran.
“As I have shown repeatedly, I am willing to end past conflicts and forge new partnerships for a better and more stable world, even if our differences may be profound,” Trump said.
The comments came as Trump kick off the Mideast trip on Tuesday with his visit to Saudi capital. The latest entreaty to Tehran comes days after Trump dispatched his special envoy Steve Witkoff to meet with Iranian officials for a fourth round of talks aimed at persuading Iran to abandon its nuclear program.
“As President of the United States, my preference will always be for peace and partnership, whenever those outcomes can be achieved,” Trump said.
He also said he hopes Saudi Arabia will soon join the Abraham Accords and recognize Israel “in your own time.”
Saudi Arabia long has maintained that recognition of Israel is tied to the establishment of a Palestinian state along the lines of Israel’s 1967 borders. Under the Biden administration, there was a push for Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel as part of a major diplomatic deal. However, the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel upended those plans and sent the region into one of the worst period of faces it has faced.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Yet the U.S. never declared war against that country. Instead, we targeted a whole bunch of fall guys and took them out with great fanfare--Ghaddafi of Libya, Saddam Hussain of Iraq. Those guys used to work with our CIA.
So WHY, Mr. President, are you messing with the Middle East potentates?
I thought we were going to be oil-independent. What has happened to the pipeline in the U.S.? Have you re-started it, after Biden shut it down?
I haven't heard a word about it.
Train is on the wrong track, people.
Huh? Where is your evidence that the CIA ever worked with either of them.
Your assumptions are poorly thought out. Get used to not going to war and killing millions and enjoying profitable partnerships throughout the world. That is the lasting path to peace and prosperity.
The Iranian people need to be free of the ayatollahs, and to be able to choose Christianity instead.
There are very many Persian Saints in the Orthodox Christian calendar, mostly Martyrs!
Lord have Mercy!
Muslims will NEVER give up trying to destroy Israel. Trump is naive if he thinks he can change their minds.
Saudi Arabia stripped Bin Laden of his citizenship in 1994. But Afghanistan gave Bin Laden a haven for his Al Qaeda to practice attacking the U.S. We were right to go into Afghanistan, and probably should have done the same to Pakistan.
You’re throwing out the baby with the bath water...
It would be as if all Americans were condemned because of the actions of BLM. Or all Mexicans because of the cartels.
The House of Saud had a crazy - out of favor - branch of the family with serious issues. Osama bin Laden was in that branch. He did not represent the family - he represented the outcasts of the family.
There weren’t any terrorists on 911 except the US govt.🙄
Because the Saudis keep a lid in the insane in Arabia. Should have kept Saddam also. ARABS CAN’T DO DEMOCRACY.
Iran as been making very bad choices since 1979.
Too many Khomeini.
I say Khomeini, you say Khameini, let’s call the whole thing awful.
Your ironclad proof of that statement can be found where?
