On March 28th, 2025, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck Myanmar, causing a rupture in about 460 kilometers (290 miles) of the Sagaing fault line that runs through most of the country, causing shaking of at least intensity X on the Modified Mercalli scale. As heavy shaking was felt throughout much of Myanmar as well as other neighboring countries, the fault line moved side-to-side by as much 6 meters (20 feet) in some places, a movement which was captured by the camera in this video. This is the first (and currently only) known instance of a fault line motion being captured on camera.
Thought I was reading “the first rapture ever filmed”.
Now, that would have been interesting!
That must have been eerie to watch in person. I imagine there was a lot of “WTH just happened” going on. Of course, if your roof was dropping all around you, you might not have the presence of mind to even look at it.
WOW. A strike slip fault caught on video. Hat tip to Geology Professor Shawn Willsey. His 10 minute explanation is here:

Awesome. Maybe five feet of strike-slip movement and a couple of inches of vertical.
High Voltage tower developed an issue.
That was just crazy. The camera on the property didn’t appear to show any significant damage to the driveway..
;^)
This was away from the epicenter. The epicenter was reported to have 20+ feet in movement..
Now that was interesting, watching the landscape on the upper right just start moving smoothly relative to the left/center of the FOV, as if it were a ship sailing by.
I wonder how many others toppled.
Californians. See your future, be your future.
I saw that. It looks like the top of tower toppled. I think it is likely the wires ran across the fault...
The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles … hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages …
And we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet isn’t going anywhere. WE are!

I saw Crack in the World as a child in the 1960s. One of the first in theatre movies for me. Scared me quite a bit as well.
I suspect California earthquake planners will be investigating and analyzing this one since it is similar to the San Andreas fault.
Video at the link.
That’s an amazing thing to watch, although it is surprising it’s never been captured before. But I suppose simply having cameras placed along a known fault line isn’t enough to catch such an event. The camera would have to be near the epicenter in order for any displacement noticeable to the naked eye to be captured.
Wow!
