BREAKING: President Trump Announces He Will Sign Executive Order to Reduce Pharmaceutical Prices by 30% to 80% Almost Immediately
Gateway Pundit ^ | May 11, 2025 | Staff

President Trump teased a big announcement on Sunday afternoon and that it “will be one of the most important and impactful I have ever issued. ENJOY!”

Trump posted this on TRUTH Social around 3 PM ET.

Of course, pundits were guessing what this important and impactful announcement was going to be about.

After a three hour wait… President Trump announced that his administration will reduce pharmaceuticals by 30% to 80%.

President Trump on TRUTH:

President Trump: For many years the World has wondered why Prescription Drugs and Pharmaceuticals in the United States States of America were SO MUCH HIGHER IN PRICE THAN THEY WERE IN ANY OTHER NATION, SOMETIMES BEING FIVE TO TEN TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE SAME DRUG, MANUFACTURED IN THE EXACT SAME LABORATORY OR PLANT, BY THE SAME COMPANY???

It was always difficult to explain and very embarrassing because, in fact, there was no correct or rightful answer. The Pharmaceutical/Drug Companies would say, for years, that it was Research and Development Costs, and that all of these costs were, and would be, for no reason whatsoever, borne by the “suckers” of America, ALONE.

Campaign Contributions can do wonders, but not with me, and not with the Republican Party.

We are going to do the right thing, something that the Democrats have fought for many years. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that Tomorrow morning, in the White House, at 9:00 A.M., I will be signing one of the most consequential Executive Orders in our Country’s history. Prescription Drug and Pharmaceutical prices will be REDUCED, almost immediately, by 30% to 80%. They will rise throughout the World in order to equalize and, for the first time in many years, bring FAIRNESS TO AMERICA! I will be instituting a MOST FAVORED NATION’S POLICY whereby the United States will pay the same price as the Nation that pays the lowest price anywhere in the World. Our Country will finally be treated fairly, and our citizens Healthcare Costs will be reduced by numbers never even thought of before. Additionally, on top of everything else, the United States will save TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

SAME PRICE FOR ALL! A good policy if it takes and then sticks. Foreign nations will no doubt have a conniption over this.

I”m torn on this. He is right that Americans are paying all of the R&D cost which is not fair. But I’m always concerned and very leary about the heavy hand of government dictating prices.

But President Trump is correct — let every country buying pharmaceuticals pay their fair share of R&D and clinical trial costs!

I’m on a $1,500/year medication (that’s my copay AFTER insurance), so I might really benefit.

I can see how he can set payment prices on Medicare, Medicaid and other government programs purchasing drugs, but I don't see how he can set private prices. I expect it won't be Europeans paying more, but instead people like me.

I would like to see the end of the incessant drug ads. They aren't primarily trying to get you to buy a drug. They are bribing TV networks to not look too closely at prices and side effects.

Awhile back I read an article about this. The author said there is one important reason for higher pharmaceutical prices in the US than elsewhere.

US pharmaceutical companies are forced to give a discount to other countries because if they don’t, those countries will stop protecting US patents. Then companies in those countries will just produce knock-off drugs with no restraints.

I don’t know how accurate that is. But given how other countries treat us, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were part of the puzzle.

Democrats promised this for decades but never delivered.

They never solve problems, because once they solve a problem they aren’t needed any more.

They always want the issue to blame on Republicans and make empty promises to their base. But never, ever solve a damn thing...................................

“Thank you for your attention to this matter”.
He uses this phrase a lot.
It’s classic and old school ‘sternly worded letter’ style.
I dig it.

My Mom gets pepsid using UnitedHealthcare for her medications(Crappy insurance but she’s stuck with them for this year) they raised the price of 180 pills of Pepsid from 5 bucks from last year to now 15 dollars..if you go to Canada you can get these drugs much cheaper..its about time we pay the same as everyone else worldwide

“Then companies in those countries will just produce knock-off drugs with no restraints.”

They will do that anyways. The knock-offs will be sold in other countries and probably be of inferior quality or lower than proper label dosage.

There was a story a few years back where blood pressure meds made in India were being cut by the employees who were taking the real meds to give to their families of sold on the streets.....................

If they refuse to pay, we can shut them out. No more new drugs for the rest of the world. Canadians will have to pay out of pocket through the American Healthcare system.

Good! “Free enterprise” bullies and gluttons, eat your heart out.

It is a wonderful move. Now it needs to be embedded in a law passed by Congress so a Democrat judge rented by the Big Pharma companies cannot try to overturn it.

Big Pharma is not "Free Enterprise". It is a cartel that has been ripping off Americans with government-backed regulations that kept drug prices in America ridiculously high for the last 70 years.

They are even now in direct violation of Sherman antitrust and Wright-Patterson consumer protection laws too. If they start any trouble, it is past time for indictments and prosecutions.

Yes they will. The only ones worth hearing from are the very poor countries. They may need corporate subsidies to get their hands on critical medicines.
I’d propose some kind of benchmark system, using say the top 60 countries by GDP. I don’t mind if malaria drugs for example are sold very cheap to the Congo as long as they aren’t bootlegged and diverted to rich countries.

The ink won’t be dry before Big Pharma files for a temporary restraining order in front of a Rat federal judge. It’s guaranteed, but will make Trump popular.

I suppose in theory, the pharmaceutical companies could choose to not sell their products to Medicare and Medicaid at the lower prices. But I also think a snowball has a better chance in hell than that happening.

I assume he's joking.

If a Democrat announced that businesses were required to lower their prices, conservatives would be screaming "Communism!"

It also smacks of "RINO" Nixon's infamous wage and price controls.
