Russian soldiers are replacing tanks with motorcycles

Even before armies used tanks, they were using motorcycles. In 1916, US troops on motorcycles chased Mexican bandit Pancho Villa (who also used motorized bikes in his raids). In World War II, couriers zoomed all over the front carrying messages, while German reconnaissance units even used sidecar motorcycles armed with machine guns. Today, US special forces use motorbikes, including some commercial models.

Motorcycles are fast, nimble — and as actor Steve McQueen showed in the World War II movie "The Great Escape" — the epitome of cool. But replacing tanks with motorcycles? Skeptics might prefer to trade coolness for the security of two-feet of armor plate; tanks and infantry fighting vehicles have armor and heavy guns designed to punch through defensive lines.

Even Ukraine — which has repeatedly faced suicide assaults by Russian infantry — seemed stunned by biker assaults.

The war in Ukraine is driving a shift in infantry tactics not seen in a hundred years.

Assault seems to have evolved. Now everything is drones, speed, agility...almost a throwback to earlier times (except the drones) when men with rifles carried the day. But on steroids.

It seems Heinlein was prescient when he wrote Starship Troopers.

You can go online and see photos of **long lines of dead russkis** and their blown up motorbikes.
(sad face)

Not what I would call success.

Expensive tanks are out dated, when they can be destroyed with cheap anti tank missiles and drones.

That’s because all their MBTs have destroyed.

Yep, when an advanced battle tank or other piece of armored equipment can be neutralized by a $5000 dollar drone from a hundred miles or more away, the battlefield has changed forever.

It is my understanding that the Taliban used motorcycles.

The most dangerous Russians are those with motorcycles and shovels made from scrapped washing machines.

Would you rather be moving at 10mph or 80 mph when being shot at?

One of my theories is that this war is much like the Spanish Civil War, a chance to try out the new toys and learn from it.

Yep. Same as the aircraft carrier made the battleship obsolete.

Now here’s the thing. It took some time for the admirals to realize that their battleships were obsolete. In the meantime thousands of battleship sailors died.

Will our armored division generals follow that same path?

....suicide assaults by Russian infantry... more fake news for those that lack discernment
Tanks changed how WW1 was fought
Today, drones can defeat a tank.
Drones have changed the nature of war

It seems Heinlein was prescient when he wrote Starship Troopers. And also he observed....

Often the choice vehicle gets the mission accomplished.

The Ukrainians were first to employ this mobility/speed innovation. The Russians have simply expanded the scale.

Both sides are using electric bikes, silent and no heat signature.
