Report: Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Moves to Block State GOP from Endorsing Vivek Ramaswamy
Breitbart ^ | 05/07/2025 | Sean Moran

Posted on 05/07/2025 12:00:53 PM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Term-limited Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH) is reportedly moving to block the Ohio Republican Party from endorsing Vivek Ramaswamy’s bid to succeed him.

DeWine and his advisers hope to prevent the state party from endorsing Ramaswamy to replace DeWine in the governor’s mansion in Columbus. President Donald Trump endorsed Ramaswamy on the night he announced his campaign to govern the Buckeye State.

The move pits DeWine sharply against Trump and Vice President JD Vance, NBC noted:

The moves place DeWine sharply at odds with Trump and Vice President JD Vance, an Ohioan who has directed his political team to steer Ramaswamy’s campaign. The move also reinforces long-standing tensions in the state between the old guard, establishment GOP that DeWine is trying to preserve and Trump’s MAGA movement, which counts younger figures like Vance and Ramaswamy among its next generation.

DeWine and Trump were on opposite sides last year in a high-profile GOP Senate primary that Bernie Moreno — Trump’s candidate — ultimately won. And since DeWine chose Ohio State football legend Jim Tressel to serve as his lieutenant governor in January, there has been wide speculation that he prefers the former coach to succeed him. Aside from attending some party fundraisers, Tressel has sent no signals he intends to run, though he has not ruled it out.

Why should DeWine care? He’s retiring.
Kindly step aside.
Is he that much of a Control Freak?

He really is pretty bad. We had our fill of him during the Covid shutdown, he turned the state over to his health commissioner, a genuinely mental female doctor who took the reins and acted like a dictator. I think she has shown interest in running for governor too! If she does, that is who DeWine will support. She will lose, he will finally be done with politics, and we will be done with him.

Ramaswamy has very good ideas, on a host of issues, but the one thing that might damage his political aspirations would be the H1B debacle and his statements following that about proms, jocks, traditional Americana, etc.

I see this as a PLUS. Getting stiff armed by the RINOS is a sure sign he is legitimate and wants change. I say we all bet and see who leads in the odds.

Can I assume DeWine is like the country club Republicans we have here in GA? I dislike the term RINO, though it might be accurate in this case, I don’t know. Looking for local FReeper commentary.

Here in GA, the country clubbers, those trying to run the GOP as a small private club that will ultimately lose elections, have largely been swept aside. Many of them were NeverTrumpers, not MAGA Patriots. The fight there is still ongoing, but Kemp’s announcement he’s not running for Senator said a lot on this front.

I hope Vivek Ramaswamy goes back to what he does best: take over DOGE vacated by MUSK and continue to DISMANTLE THE MONSTROUS UNCONSTITUTIONAL PORTION OF THE FEDERAL GOV’T!!!

Also somehow by some miracle, Trump needs to come his senses about his VP and replace politician JD with non-politician Patriot Vivek so the presumptive next President in 2028 will EXTEND and EXPAND MAGA!!!

Amen.

There are videos on Twitter of him plagiarizing Barak Obama’s speeches.

Word for word.

It sounds as bad as Biden plagiarizing Neil Kinnock (British Labour MP), perhaps even worse.

Republicans should consider this and how it could be used against them in the general election. It could cost the governorship.

RINOs thiugh weren’t the ones pushing back on the H1B debacle and his statements following that about proms, jocks, traditional Americana, etc.

The base of the GOP was.

So neither the RINOs, nor many in the base, may show up to vote for him.

An apology to the base though might suffice to bring the base out.

Point is, his backers may say it’s either him or a commie running against him, which could very well be true, but Biden supporters used a similar tactic against Bernie Bros in 2019-20, saying vote for Biden or the eeevil boogeyman fascist Trump will win.

Plus the Biden backers made promises to the Bernie supporters, most of which were not kept.

“Why should DeWine care?”

Not much difference, if any between dems/uniparty/GOPe as they pretty much have the same goals, this is a perfect example.

I didn’t used to think that DeWine was as bad as Kashich, but he is giving him a run for his money.

I just think that DeWine is a little more clever about hiding it unit the last several years.

Ohio sure can make some RINOs

He will lose Ohio. He is not conservative enough to win enough of the countryside to offset the huge loses he will experience in the cities.

Vance was a weak candidate for the Senate. Vik will be weaker yet running for governor.

Ohio is a tough state. DeWhine isn’t my favorite but he was far better than Kaysick who was also a big personalty.

Vik will lose to another Ted Strickland. A big union welfare spending but at least decent on crime and taxes.

Nationalized campaigns tend to do poorly in Ohio.

I used to live there so I know: The ballots during the primary list several names with the top name followed by “Endorsed by the Ohio GOP”.

Finally The MAGA Party is squashing the rinos

The state GOP shouldn’t endorse a candidate in the primary, let the Republican voters decide.

Would some of the people complaining feel the same way if it was Mitt Romney or Lindsey Graham picking who the winner will be in their states?

I see this as good news.

As there continues to be some question as to whether Vivek is the real deal or not — being dissed by a total RINO swine like DeWine can only be an indication that Vivek is truly on our side.

“His health commisioner is running too.”

That explains Mikes recent responses. Cronyism.
If I recall, he health commissioner showed a lot more leadership than he did during Covid. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that she happens to have a decent figure too.
I think her name is Dr. Amy Acton.
