Germany’s Friedrich Merz has failed to win an initial parliamentary vote that would have confirmed his ascension to chancellor, an unprecedented and unexpected twist that extends political uncertainty for the country.
Merz, who won an election in February and unveiled a ruling coalition last month, fell six short in a vote on Tuesday by lawmakers that had been expected to be a formality.
He is expected to eventually find a path to power, but the result pitches Germany into yet more political chaos. February’s vote started a weeks-long period of politicking and negotiating, during which the country’s establishment was buffeted by attacks from the insurgent far-right AfD party and from the increasingly intrusive Trump administration.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
This is not a good sign for the CDU/CSU, even if they scrape up the votes, this is going to be a thin and unstable coalition.
If Ethyl had asked Lucy for help, Fred would have gotten in.
The election is by secret ballot. So, party members might vote differently from leadership.
Apparently, some within the (center-left) Social Democratic Party didn’t want to be junior partners with the (center-right) Christian Democrats, even though the Christian Democrats seemed to cave in to all the demands of the Social Democrats during post-election negotiations.
It is notable that that the populist-right Alternative Party has now jumped ahead of the Christian Democrats and is now the larger party in Germany in the polls.
The globalist idiot let his mouth overload his butt. He run his mouth about sending missiles to Ukraine, future war with Russia, and tried to engineer banning the largest political party in Germany. He is a EU tool. The German people have been raped by their leaders over Ukraine, having lost access to cheap energy. German was trending FACIST with this guy.
What a wimp. That sort of thing didn’t stop Hitler.
Interesting.
I can’t help but think of Fred Mertz from the old Jackie Gleason show.
It could be as you write (ie SPD-members who did not vote for Mertz), but according to German newspapers there are dissatisfaction also in the CDU. Some states, among others those of the former East Germany, have received very few seats in the new government. Given that it was a secret ballot it is not impossible that Mertz was stabbed by some of his own party members.
Every campaign needs a crazy redhead.
Kinda like Marcon did in France.
The AfD is the elephant in the living room. Any coalition that doesn’t deal with them will be unstable and weak. The government took the approach of trying to outlaw AfD as “right wing extremists,” thus illustrating that Germany’s instinct is still autocratic.
😀
Thanks for the correction and the additional information.
Merz needs his “Von Papen”.
Numbers-wise, Merz carried 310 votes (needing 316). Between SPD/CDU/CSU...they had 328....so there are 18 players who aren’t with the Merz coalition agreement.
2nd vote will occur in 3 to 4 hours.
3rd vote possible but that requires only a simple majority. It’s possible that 10-to-20 more current votes vacate Merz (if we get that far).
I’ll just say...public feeling (CDU/CSU voters)....probably one-third of them are disenchanted with the coalition design, and failed promises. If the 2nd/3rd votes fail...this will gets into a 5-star theatrical show.
Today’s Germans lost their perspective.
I would disagree....disgruntled folks in both the CDU/CSU and SPD parties...each seeing a reason to ‘send’ a message that this coalition can’t deliver.
Fair sum don’t see a problem in forcing a new public election (without Scholz or Merz as candidates).
These freaking WEF deep state world order scum are despised. Stepping down is too good for them.
Russia’s Medvedev compares Germany’s Merz to Nazi Goebbels
March 20, 2025
Former Russian President Medvedev compared Friedrich Merz, Germany’s likely next chancellor, to Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels. Meanwhile, Moscow has declared another German political organization “undesirable.”
Merz has no balls?
