Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking legal action against the Austin Independent School District after his office said it was made aware of a claim that top officials “implemented an unwritten policy of developing and teaching curricula in the (district) in violation of state law prohibiting instruction on critical race theory (CRT) and related topics,” a court document said.
Critical race theory is a concept that looks at how race relations have shaped the current social, cultural and legal world in the present time. It was banned from being taught in Texas classrooms in 2021.
Paxton’s office is accusing AISD’s school board of breaking state law, and he wants to depose each trustee as part of the investigation.
AISD said it does not comment on pending litigation.
A press release from the AG’s office accuses an AISD official of teaching with material from the “banned” 1619 Project.
“Additionally, another employee stated that there were ‘ways to get around’ the state’s ban on CRT and discussed that the district’s board and superintendent are heavily involved in evaluating and setting policy for the district,” the release said.
According to a court document, Accuracy in Media, a conservative nonprofit media group, filmed an “undercover interview” in April 2022 with AISD’s former Equity Officer, Dr. Stephanie Hawley.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
And I wonder how many other school districts are doing this as well.
Shut it down.
Fire every single administrator and board member.
The entire Det of Education needs to be obliterated.
Nothing left but a bad memory of how NOT to do education.
I think that is the pending goal. Loose ends are being tied.
This gives ammo for that plan, for sure.
In investigating Austin ISD, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is going to need to jump into a cesspool of corruption.
AISD student assessment scores are not headed up. Administrators blame revisions in the testing and claim they need more money (a reoccurring mantra every year).
Doesn’t surprise Me at All. I lived in that commie freaking city for a while. The mid 70’s till about 1990 wasn’t too bad but from then on it went to }{€££ rapidly! !!
This is a classic example of how the media lies by omission. It totally misses the negative aspects of CRT such as reverse discrimination, Marxism, reparations, etc., and paints a positive image of it. In fact, it's a cancer on society.
