$100K is low-income in San Francisco, according to report

People living in San Francisco who earn over $100,000 a year are considered low-income, according to a new report. The report was released by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) last month.

In San Francisco, the report states, a single-person household with income of $109,700 is considered low-income. A two-person household with an income of $125,350 would similarly be classed as low-income.

The HCD’s report crunches federal income data, takes into account household size, and then calculates five categories of income, ranging from acutely low to moderate. The determinations are then leveraged to determine who is eligible for housing assistance.

According to the report, there are three other Bay Area counties — Marin, Santa Clara, and San Mateo — where it’s possible to earn six figures and still be classed as low-income.

Supply and demand determine prices. Evidently there is still a demand for living in San Francisco.

I live in California and my property tax is $1,400 a year.

Prop 13 restricts how much property tax can increase each year. So as long as I live in my home I will never be forced to sell because of high property tax.

The catch is, when my house is sold, the new owner will pay property tax based on the price they paid for the home.

Not everything is bad in California

Not surprising.
Democrats are taxing and regulating the “rich” so much they are all leaving.
The CA I grew up in was a paradise, now it is an East coast Democrat shithole.
Surprisingly I live in another Democrat shit hole, Hawaii,
but the government is so weak here you can escape most their BS. Just live in very rural Hawaii.
Claim residence in another state with no income tax.
So all I worry about is County real estate taxes.
You can hardly avoid that.

So to California I say this, Se Habla Espanol!
you’ll need it to order a taco.

“Not everything is bad in California”

You got that right mate! There isn’t even a provision for recall elections in this filthy state. RE taxes are based on estimated market value of homes and not the actual budget needs. In the last couple years home prices have skyrocketed as have the taxes.

Democrats caused sufficient inflation such that many are looking at retirement with dread. It’s a great reward for working hard and playing by the rules.

A 2 bdrm apartment, approx 750 sq ft in a neighborhood where there’s no dead bodies or shit on the sidewalk...runs about $4500/mo.

A studio in Palo Alto is about $3500/mo.

Not likely.

It is a great opportunity. My first 2 post college/internship jobs were in the Boston area. I saved 50% of my post tax income and invested it. When it came time to marry and have a family I moved to a place much more amenable for low cost living.

I don’t find this bothersome at all, for I will never live in Kalifornia, let alone SF.

Not just in SF, it’s in the entire state. That’s why Kalifornia is losing the working class, they’re still fleeing in droves.
