Dershowitz to Newsmax: Harvard Won't Win Legal Battle Against Trump
Newsmax ^ | 5/5/25 | Nicole Weatherholtz

Constitutional law expert Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax on Monday that Harvard University won't win as it fights the Trump administration in court to regain access to more than $2.2 billion in federal grants and, potentially, its tax-exempt status, which President Donald Trump said he intends to revoke.

The funding was frozen hours after Harvard President Alan Garber said the university would not comply with the government's demands to limit student activism, following last year's anti-Israel protests that roiled college campuses across the country.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

You may not like his politics, but Dershowitz is a brilliant lawyer.

And while Trump is at it, revoke the tax exempt status of Scientology.

Whatever happened to all the “Tax the Rich” talk?

Harvard has a big, fat, juicy endowment just begging to be taxed, just as leftists want to raise Elon’s taxes.

We need to tax it...for the children!

Why are my (and your) federal tax dollars going to private colleges/universities that already receive boatloads of money from endowments and private contributions from wealthy individuals, corporations etc.?

Tax the Rich

It's still there but the "rich" are the middle class or anyone who makes more than or within a couple of standard deviations below the median income. Because they:

  1. in aggregate have the most money
  2. Are more likely to be Republican than Democrat

There was a funny cartoon a couple days ago where a guy asks a crowd “Who wants to tax the rich?” Every hand shoots up.

In the next panel, the same guy asks the same crowd “Who wants to be rich” and every hand shoots up.

'We're a private university. You can't tell us what to do.'

That's not true. We told Christian universities if they take pubic money they can't promote Christianity.

The question is why is this private university taking public money?

America’s Left, often controlled by elitists from places like Harvard, has spent 60 years giving DOJ and Dept. of Education power to social-engineer higher-education, with government regulation, lawfare and money

The irony is fantastic - Trump is simply taking this leftist weapon, and pointing it at Harvard

By making an example of Harvard, every other university will change their ways.

I enjoy Dershowitz’ take on various issues. I do not agree that the USA has to fund medical research at Harvard. Harvard scientists have the right to apply for grants at NIH and if their proposal is judged worthwhile they will receive a grant. It should be decided on a grant by grant basis not a block grant to an institution. The institutions have not policed scientific integrity at their institutions and they are not acceptable to control funding from US government.

Harvard University’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston is to retract six research articles and ask for corrections of 31 more, many of them by its senior leaders, after a blogger raised concerns about image manipulation.Jan 29, 2024

Thanks for mentioning that. Sometimes cartoons hit a particularly trenchant truth.

We can’t tell them what to do. UNLESS they take our money. Then we have every right to tell them what to do. If they don’t like it don’t take the money.

We told Christian universities if they take pubic money they can't promote Christianity.

My alma mater, Christendom College, like Hillsdale, takes ZERO fed money. It was barely getting by in the early years when I attended (library was a barn, chapel had been a workshop). Now it is thriving.

Thanks Dersh, but are there any Federale judges who despise the Trump agenda more? Than the ones in Massachusetts, California and Washingtoon DC?

IOW they will have their pre-determined ultra-libby decisions. Then concoct the legal reasoning afterwards. Advantage Harvard for endless cease n desist injunctions against Trump. Interminable delays that are almost as good as a win. Then ultimately a probable win. Then the lazy, no account Supreme Court will refuse to take up (consider) these hundreds of anti-Trump Federal lower court decisions.
