Despite their denials, China is losing the tariffs war and retreating as fast as it can
New York Post ^ | May 3, 2025 | Steven W. Mosher

As President Trump brings manufacturing back to the US — and closes in on trade deals with India, Japan, and South Korea — China’s days as “the world’s factory floor” are numbered. And Beijing is furious.

In a move harking back to the Cultural Revolution, Chinese schoolchildren are again being taught to hate the US. Class time is devoted to shouting anti-American slogans like “China must win the China-US trade war!”

...

But it turns out that — in secret — Beijing has been quietly retreating as fast as it can.

Trump divulged in a Time magazine interview on April 25 that China’s Xi Jinping contacted him directly about tariffs, and later affirmed that he has since spoken with the Chinese dictator “many times.”

...

Think of how much face Xi Jinping will lose when the Chinese people learn that he, after grandstanding on tariffs, has caved. But Xi Jinping has, and for good reason.

The signs of China’s impending economic collapse are everywhere:

...

America is by far China’s largest customer, absorbing about one-sixth of China’s exports. If the tariffs stay in place for any length of time, economists estimate that 80% of China’s goods will be priced out of the American market, representing a loss of almost $400 billion.

As many as 10 million Chinese workers might lose their jobs over the next few weeks, says Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, a number that could easily double in the months that follow as the ripple effects of the slowdown tear through the economy.

Beijing’s biggest worry is not a tariff recession, but the social unrest that will follow.

...

they are worried about a reprise of the 1989 Tiananmen demonstrations.

What’s the last time China admitted any defeat?

They will not admit a thing in public. So, Trump will probably have to say he wants to negotiate the deal with China.

“We are not afraid of a trade war with the US. The Chinese people can survive an entire year eating nothing but grass.”

The Japanese in WWII had similar sayings about their warriors: “A Japanese warrior can survive by eating grass.”

In reality, workers or warriors who are reduced to eating grass don’t win battles or trade wars.

That’s some slogan they have that the Chinese people can survive for a year of eating only grass!

I’m sure the workers are not happy to hear that prediction.

China worried? w/ both Joe and Hunter Biden in their corner....../s.

VP Joe and son on official China state visit.

NY Post ace journo Miranda Devine @mirandadevine reports on the 2013 Beijing visit by Hunter and the obsequious Joe Biden with President Xi. VP son Hunter was given ten percent-—a billion dollar stake—— in the Chinese state’s investment partnership BHR.”

Excerpted from Devine’s must-read book on the Biden Crime Family of grifters, “Laptop From Hell”....an expose of whoring Hunter’s drug-fueled dissolute lifestyle.

Note well: This photograph was taken in 2013. The Bidens did not want the public to see this.

It took court action to get the National Archives to release it. The photo predates the period granted by Hunter’s pardon. Means you can go after Hunter hammer and tongs for offenses committed before 2014.

I hope the story is accurate but still 10 million Chinese losing their jobs is only about 1.3% of their workers. I question just how much this hurts. If it does hit 20 million that may hurt but probably more so the loss of face. Maybe that matters more than the $.

Without the US greedy self indulgent consumers, China hasn’t got a prayer. They will have to start another pandemic to hold off meltdown.

Not sure that, if I lived in China, I'd want my Vice President saying this.

If their economy wasn’t already teetering on the brink they probably could absorb the loss. But between covid and the Chinese real estate implosion their economy is running on fumes. Plus their “tofu dregs” infrastructure has exceeded its expiration date. Buildings and roads across the country are falling apart. China is a house of cards.

Henry Kissinger created this China. The previous China was weaker, smaller, but more belligerent.

The Kissinger plan was that the Chinese people would be consumers and have the values of consumers.

To what extent did the Kissinger plan work? or Fail? and where do we go from here?

Trump to Xi, if you admit publically that Joe Biden and Hunter were paid spies for China, then we will talk.

China, Japan, and Korea are what are termed "Asian Shame Cultures" (relating to the concept of "face")

The government (especially a dictatorship as in Communist China, but less so in countries like Japan and Korea) cannot publicly admit the situation it finds itself in, as publicly admitting it would cause it to lose "face".

So the CCP will simply lie to conceal the fact that in a trade imbalanced situation, they do not hold a strong hand, using poker parlance. Sure. They can cause shortages in product availability to occur all up and down our supply chains by restricting product availability, and that will hurt the United States.

But they do not have a strong hand, because if those factories employing hundreds of millions of Chinese citizens cannot move their products into American markets, someone is going to have to fill the "rice bowls" of Chinese workers if the factories being shuttered cannot. China imports most of its oil. It has to import food.

The CCP is well practiced in the task of bailing out our subsidizing industries or factories it deems critical to the party's interest, or...subsidizing those industries or factories so they can dump their products cheaply into the economies of other countries to destroy that sector of the market so they can take over that sector. They have done that brilliantly and without consequence for the last 30 years, and even if we are waking up now, it may still be too late. But at least we are waking up.

It is my opinion that between 2020 and January 20, 2024, someone got Trump's ear, and convinced him (rightfully and accurately) that the greatest weapon American wields over Communist China (and the rest of the hostile world) is not the B2 bomber, an aircraft carrier, or any other kind of military armament.

Our greatest asset and weapon is our consumer market, hundreds of millions of Americans who control the millions of individual purse strings that allow money to flow into the ChiCom coffers.

The Communists know this, and understood that like Satan, the best defense against us defending our own interests was to make Americans believe the threat from Communist China does not exist, as Biden, Obama, Bush, and Clinton did.

And that concealment is gone.

They know it. Trump knows it. and now, many Americans understand it too.

(NOTE: If you really want a more rounded understanding of what is REALLY going on in China, I believe this person who has a channel on YouTube (he goes by the nickname of LINK: Serpentza) and he had lived in Communist China as an English teacher for 15 years. He knows the country pretty intimately.)

Just to be clear, calling them out on what they have deliberately planned and carried out in a most effective manner for the last 30 years is not without risk. They are a simmering pot internally. And if the government has to pay to fill the rice bowls of larger parts of its population, they are going to have to worry about defending itself from that disillusioned and population.

And one of the ways to deflect those Chinese citizens from attacking the CCP is by stoking the flames of national resentment against foreigners, something they would have no problem doing as it is ingrained in much of the Chinese population, and historically in their eyes, for valid reasons.

But I would rather take that risk and rightfully rebel against the huge imbalance of tariffs that existed between China and America before Trump took action, than continue on, being a vassal state (industrially speaking) of a Communist totalitarian regime.
