Self-checkout is checking out.
Target is removing self-checkout stations from stores as thieves use the kiosks to conduct their crimes.
Last March, the popular chain announced plans to limit self-checkout to 10 items and limit or remove self-checkout kiosks amid complaints about clunky technology and concerns about rising theft.
Along with paring back customers’ self-checkout hauls, stores will expand the number of traditional checkout lanes available.
Reddit user @jxbermudez72 shared a photo two weeks ago showing where the store they shop at had a large empty space where the self-check out stations had been.
“The target I live near completely got rid of self checkout,” the user wrote.
Plenty of others replied to the thread claiming their local Target had done the same.
And shoppers are not happy with having to wait to have an employee scan their items.
“Ugh, I hate this… I just want to get my groceries without forcing people to do more labor,” someone replied to the thread.
“This definitely is not the better option,” one person said after a terrible experience waiting in line. ” I went to my local Target to pick up a flashlight that was on sale. Took me almost a 1/2 hour. There was a group of people waiting and one girl running herself ragged.”

That was my main objection to self-checkout, and I still don't like it, but I realized that if I bag the groceries, they get bagged the way I want. Frozen stuff separate, and so forth.
Another good thing about self-checkout is not getting stuck behind old people who take a half-hour to write a check, or women with hordes of obnoxious children, or people who have to run back and get another item that's in the back of the store, or having to wait on a glacially slow employee to do a price check, or cashiers who have to stop what they're doing while they chat with a customer, etc., etc.
Not to mention all the stuff I can skip scanning, cuts way down on the old grocery bill. (Just kidding about that last bit.)
Just another reason not to shop at Target anymore.
Not the biggest reason why I don’t shop at Target.
Exactly.
We played wedding and no one was happy.
we played funeral and no one was happy.
Mat_11:17 ‘We played wedding songs, and you didn’t dance, so we played funeral songs, and you didn’t mourn.’
Luk_7:32 They are like children playing a game in the public square. They complain to their friends, ‘We played wedding songs, and you didn’t dance, so we played funeral songs, and you didn’t weep.’
I like the self checkout but firmly believe slow people should be banned from using them.
I’m with you on the self checkout.
Whatever I can do to avoid standing in line, I’ll do it.
Yes, but only until Al Sharpton figures out a way to sue them and collect $tens of millions.
I live in a small city in the Mohawk Valley region of NY State. Despite the fact that there isn’t much crime here, Walmart here has been closing down some of their self-checkout machines. They had two aisles set aside for multiple self-checkout, but those have been closed down for quite a while now. And in the self-checkout section, which consists of about 10 machines, they close down every other one from time to time. I was there last night, and all of them were open, but there have been days that I’ve had to stand and wait. I’m 77, have a bad back, and bad knees. After walking through the store to get what I need, the last thing I want to do is stand in line to check out. Walking is actually easier for me than standing. The regular checkouts are mostly closed down with few lanes open, and with longer lines.
Yep
Some use their children to do the stealing
Scan with app, then AI cameras in arches on the way out look at the cart
What did they think, we live in a high trust homogeneous society?
My Sam’s Club still has self-checkout—much faster than having a checker do it. Even faster is scanning the items using the Sam’s Club app, I verify the number of items in my cart, hit pay on the app and walk out through a ‘gate’ that somehow verifies that I’m being honest. The person at the exit then just waves me through.
But they still won’t let me into the employees’ break room.
The 8th commandment is supposed to be engraved upon our hearts. Unfortunately because of transgressing the 10th that tends towards transgressing the 8th.
Barely. That was a LONG time ago, Great Grandad.
Target is the new Kmart. Surprised they still exist.
And self checkout is the worst.
GO WOKE GO BROKE
Snort
How many people would you trust today to check your oil?
My WalMart has closed off most of their self-checkouts and limited the rest to 15 items, with two people monitoring each isolated checkout area. Such stuff only works out in honest locations. I guess our demographics are too diverse.
I hate both self-checkout and regular human assisted checkout.
Publix store has regular checkouts for 10 or less items. That is where I usually go. They do not mind if I have couple of extra items over 10.
