MTG: ‘The Base Is Not Happy’ [Marjorie Taylor Greene]
The American Conservative ^ | May 2, 2025 | Mason Letteau Stallings

Posted on 05/03/2025 10:31:00 AM PDT by Angelino97

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a prominent populist congresswoman and Trump-ally, voiced concerns in a long Friday post on X about the state of the Trump administration, criticizing the current position of the administration on Iran, Ukraine, as well as a host of domestic issues.

“I campaigned for no more foreign wars,” Greene wrote. “And now we are supposedly on the verge of going to war with Iran.”

Greene was also highly critical of the so-called “Minerals Deal” between the U.S. and Ukraine, opining:

And on top of that, now we are told that we have signed a deal for mineral rights in Ukraine, in order to pay us back for the hundreds of billions of dollars that we gave Ukraine and they used for money laundering, sold the weapons we gave them to our enemies, and their leader is a dictator who canceled elections, was involved of the first impeachment of Trump, and campaigned for Biden.

Didn’t we learn our lesson when we went to war in Iraq and killed Saddam Hussein because of “weapons of mass destruction?”

Did we ever find any? And did any of that oil over in the Middle East make us rich? The answer is no, we are $36 trillion in debt today.

So why on earth would we go over and occupy Ukraine and spend an untold amount of future American taxpayer dollars defending and mining their minerals as well as potentially putting American lives at risk and future war?

Why don’t we just mine our own rare earth minerals that are tied up on federal lands that the government confiscated years ago?

In her statement, Greene also criticized the failure of Republicans to prevent transgender surgeries being done on minors and to strengthen election integrity.

She’s a rather dim bulb. We do not have to occupy Ukraine or do the mining. They mine it, they ship it, we cough up agreed upon $$. It’s that simple. Implies an exchange. Our money for their minerals. Rather than what has been heretofore a grant process. Our money for their defensive expenses. MTG should stick to her district and its interests. I’m glad she is seeing headwinds in her exploration of a run against Ossoff. There are far better candidates who have far better chances of winning.

If I’m only unhappy with 30% of what Trump does, that’s still pretty good, compared to any other politician out there.

I agree with her down the line. Ukraine’s war against Russia was/is a Deep State NWO deal. SHOULD NOT EVER BE OURS.

She's right.

Any more money or weapons sold to Ukraine to continue this war undermines DOGE's efforts and keeps a war Ukraine is losing and will continue lose longer, delaying any implementation of minerals deals.

Ukraine operates at a massive deficit until the war is over and we're losing any money we put it.

We can only get money back from the deal after the war ends.

And, the dirty, little secret is that we're only getting something out of the minerals deal if it includes oil and gas. And, that will flow primarily from Russia once the war ends.

I thought the minerals were compensation for the military aid we have given them

The outcome effects us, regardless. That doesn’t mean we need to get into a hot war with Russia, but believing that we can completely isolate ourselves from the worlds problems and are immune from them, is not wise. The world is too interconnected for us to remain indifferent.

When it comes to Europe, the US should be the backstop, not the lead dog.

“And now we are supposedly on the verge of going to war with Iran.”

Iran has been at war with the United States for nearly 50 years.

We have not been responding in kind.

When thy chant: “Death to America”, they mean it.

No, she’s right on all counts.

My only disagreements with her would be:

1) it’s only been 100 days.. patience grasshopper.

2) sometimes President Trump is playing chess - the minerals deal might just be a way to force Putin to make a few last minute concessions. If President Trump were to announce the USA is completely washing its hands of Ukraine, and just walk away (which is what I’m hoping he’ll do soon) - that would embolden Putin and give him carte blanche - the minerals deal might just be a way of staying in it until something is signed.

Again, I would say to MTG - patience grasshopper.

Spot on!

I agree.

Maybe she should run for Pres in the next round -- if we make it.

was involved of the first impeachment of Trump

Because Trump called him he was "involved" in the impeachment? In that case he was made to be involved by Vindman and the "anonymous whistleblower". He didn't "get" involved.

I don’t always agree with MTG, but today, she’s right.

I see no benefit giving 50 million dollars away.

For what? Minerals that Z can’t deliver on?

The most profitable path for America is to recognize all of the areas east and south of the river, including Crimea, as Russian and make a deal with Russia for 50% of the rights to all natural resources in those areas in perpetuity.
