I think he is mostly of Germanic ancestry (Prince Philip was born in Greece but the Greek royal family was from Germany). He is a direct descendant of William the Conqueror, whom Thomas Paine correctly called a French bastard (ignoring a bit of Scandinavian ancestry). But he is also descended from medieval Scottish kings.
FWIW my Norman ancestor came to England with WtheC as a baron; 600 years later his descendant came to Virginia as an indentured servant, and every generation since moved from where he was born to where he died--I'm keeping the tradition by moving from NJ to FL, and my son...well, he moved to Nova Scotia to do his calling, traffic planning. (MY dad joke is that he does his work in a roundabout way, but I digress.)
P.S. According to my sources, the attitude in the maritimes in CA is similar to when Americans felt stiffed by France, and boycotted French fries to make themselves feel better.

Imagine the impact on world history if instead of making war on her American subjects, the UK had made us Americans the first commonwealth nation.
