Planning a vacation in Hawaii? Might be better to make it sooner rather than later as local lawmakers are ready to hike a tax imposed on travelers staying in hotels, vacation rentals and other short-term accommodations.
AP reports the first-of-its-kind impost will earmark the funding boost for programs to cope with “climate change” with the politicians responsible pointing to the wildfires that devastated parts of Hawaii in 2023 as evidence that something must be done.
State leaders highlight projects like replenishing sand on eroding beaches, helping homeowners install hurricane clips on their roofs and removing invasive grasses as a starting point. The AP report notes:

Never should have been a state.
Democrats love to raise taxes.
It’s not the same anymore.
“We hate Haoles, but we love their money.”
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...................NO!
The travelers are not causing Hawaii’s wildfires, storms, and natural erosion, so they shouldn’t bear the cost of fixing the damage.

Super corrupt.
No desire to visit.
Hawaiians I have met hate the US to this date.
It’s all gone downhill since McGarrett left.
Lived there for 3 years many years ago, loved it. Would never go back now.
Plus they’ll steal everything except a red hot stove. Leave nothing in your vehicle or porch, lanai that you don’t want gone.
Food prices bad?
My wife and I vacationed there many years ago. Absolutely loved it (Kauaii). Best vacation ever but I’d never go back because of expense and TSA patdowns (they never missed an opportunity with me).
Very—also among other things (almost everything).
Same here. It’s not the Elvis version of Blue Hawaii anymore.
Hmmmm.... sounds like it will become Calfornia West
I think it comes down to the “native” Hawiians want the “foreigners” out.
Then, all of the mega Million/ Billionaires want to exclude the unwashed from their islands. And make Hawaii essentially a gated community.
Too bad we can’t give them to China. Then let Hawaiians wonder why China has no trouble in Tibet anymore.
