Blair says current net zero policies 'doomed to fail'

Sir Tony Blair has called for a major rethink of net zero policies, arguing that limiting energy consumption and fossil fuel production is "doomed to fail".

In a new report, the former Labour prime minister says voters "feel they're being asked to make financial sacrifices and changes in lifestyle when they know the impact on global emissions is minimal".

He does not call for Labour to halt its push to decarbonise the UK economy - but says all governments need to rethink their approach, as it is not working.

The Tories - who have joined Reform UK in opposing net zero emissions by 2050 - urged Labour to end the "mad dash" to this goal - but Downing Street said it would not be changing course.

In its report The Climate Paradox: Why We Need to Reset Action on Climate Change, The Tony Blair Institute argues that global institutions such as COP and the UN have failed to make sufficient progress in halting climate change.

At the same time, it argues, the public have lost faith in climate policies because the promised green jobs and economic growth have failed to materialise, thanks in part to global instability and the Covid pandemic.

Writing in the foreword, Sir Tony says: "Though most people will accept that climate change is a reality caused by human activity, they're turning away from the politics of the issue because they believe the proposed solutions are not founded on good policy."

He says "any strategy based on either 'phasing out' fossil fuels in the short term or limiting consumption is a strategy doomed to fail".

This is strange. Blair is a true believer and a global elitist so what is going on? Anyone?

Someone, anyone, please tell our new WEF stalwart Prime Minister Mark Carney that Net Zero is full of folly.

The timing is odd. For decades, renewable energy (RE) simply hasn’t made economic sense, and government promotion of RE only led to dead-end technology stealing market share for the sort of niche applications that should support developing RE technology (Such as providing electricity to areas that are remote from the power grid.)

Now, solar power costs have finally dropped so low that solar power is economically feasible without government support (noting that coal would be cheaper without government obstruction). And EVs allow for at least some huge portion of vehicles to operate feasibly on RE. (Now that RE is economically competitive, that electricity EVs are using actually *is* funding RE, not coal.) And as we continue to use RE from plants that have already been built, their carbon footprint is plunging.

So what gives? He could be standing up to China, which has used dumping practices to drive the USA out of the market. Or maybe just the opposite: now that the USA will be moving back into the market, he sees no reason to coddle the Chinese? Or dear God, could he simply be thinking independently?

Net Zero is counter-productive, as is every Leftist notion.

All plant life on earth THRIVES MOST at elevated CO2 levels. Every greenhouse on earth elevates their CO2 levels to stimulate growth and photosynthesis. The Ideal Range for virtually every species is between 750 and 1500ppm CO2. We are at 422, and growing at less than 2/yr... and the Left wants to end, or reverse, that trend TOWARDS the Ideal Range for all plant life. They don't want more trees or flowers or crops or natural grasses... while pretending that it somehow "saves the planet".

(And by the way, elevated CO2 levels have no negative impact on mammals until around the 5500ppm level... we won't be there for another 2800 years. The earth has maxed out at 7000ppm twice that we know of, back in the Eras that I cannot spell... Pleistocene? and Ordovician?)

That’s curious. Why just yesterday, Spain achieved net-zero, albeit quite suddenly!

IMHO, Blair wants to be seen as being on the right side and the enlightened side of things. That he says it’s time to tone down the net zero warmageddon baloney may be a sign that the elites know that their cause has petered out and been exposed for the fraud that it is. It’s similar to how some Dims in the U.S. like to say that the transgender madness doesn’t make sense — they’re saying it after the fad is over.

Well....duh.

There is no such thing as “net zero”. It doesn’t exist. Just warm and fuzzy language.

Strange how nobody ever mentions the vast amount of emissions that have been eliminated now that a great percentage of business travel has become virtual.

You cannot “decarbonise “ as we are the carbon!

BTW Tony Blair is the Bill Clinton of England. He takes bribes from anyone. He is saying this about energy because the mideast countries with oil are paying him.

BullShit. Manmade climate change is not widely accepted. The earth has had the climate changing as a sine wave and it’s not man-made. One volcanic eruption is far more than what man creates for decades. Scientist need to find out to which planet common sense escaped to and return it ASAP.

Much like Biden at the debate. They all knew the truth but wouldn’t acknowledge it until forced. In this case the Spain blackout.
