ARMONK, N.Y., April 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced plans to invest $150 billion in America over the next five years to fuel the economy and to accelerate its role as the global leader in computing. This includes an investment of more than $30 billion in research and development to advance and continue IBM's American manufacturing of mainframe and quantum computers.
"Technology doesn't just build the future — it defines it," said Arvind Krishna, IBM chairman, president and chief executive officer. "We have been focused on American jobs and manufacturing since our founding 114 years ago, and with this investment and manufacturing commitment we are ensuring that IBM remains the epicenter of the world's most advanced computing and AI capabilities."
IBM is one of the nation's largest technology employers and has ushered in innovations that include the data processing systems that enabled the U.S. social security system, the Apollo Program that put a man on the moon, and power businesses in every industry.
That legacy continues in Poughkeepsie, New York, where we manufacture the cutting-edge mainframes that are the technology backbone of the American and global economies. More than 70% of the entire world's transactions by value run through the IBM mainframes that are manufactured right here in America.
IBM also operates the world's largest fleet of quantum computer systems, and will continue to design, build and assemble quantum computers in America. Quantum computing represents one of the biggest technology platform shifts and economic opportunities in decades and will solve problems that today's conventional computers cannot solve. Enabling these solutions will not only help us better understand the fundamentals of how the world works but are projected to transform American competitiveness, jobs, and national security. IBM's Quantum Network provides access to IBM's quantum systems for nearly 300 Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, national laboratories, and startups and is accessed by over 600,000 active users.
Today's announcement reaffirms IBM's unwavering commitment to the future of American innovation, igniting new economic opportunity in the United States and around the world.

Ping!...................
None of this AI is good for societies future.
Its the devils tool
Are they going to hire back the 10k American workers they fired a year ago?
So IMHO this BM press release is nothing but a smoke screen.
Agree. It is corrupted. Garbage In, Garbage Out.
The Devil is in the Details.
I’ve noticed many of the AI imaging sites have Satanic symbols in the lists.
AI could be a tool, but it will never replace human creativity or analysis. (Those are Given/On-Loan from God)
AI could be a tool, but it will never replace human creativity or analysis.
I am beginning to understand the luddites more and more.
Well, the building that started it all, the Bundy Manufacturing Works is being torn down right now where IBM started in Endicott NY. They left us contaminated water and split the scene.
They cab still be sued, even though they have left...................
I interviewed with them, aced all the interviews, had EXACTLY the skillset that the manager said was missing from her team, and was sorely needed. Got down to the end when I’m chatting with the HR lady and she casually asks “Where did you go to college?” I admit that I didn’t, she says “Well, I can’t hire you then”. So despite my skills, my background at companies like Intel, and their need for me, they couldn’t overlook the lack of a degree.
I’ll bet they build a campus or two here, and then proceed to staff them with H-1Bs who got degrees at “Apu’s Diploma Mill” in Bangalore.
Anybody, considering relying in any way on IBM is a fool. Bill Gates told IBM to shut down its operating system, OS/2 and IBM executives said “Yes, your Majesty,” and abandoned all its loyal OS/2 users and developers.
OS/2 is a superior Operating System to any version of Windows, but IBM executives are spineless poltroons. They will abandon you.
They not only stopped OS/2, they sold their PC business to China, aka LENOVO..................
150 billion we wont see much from, given its IBM
They perfected the way to screw good things up
I don’t know any Luddites.
But today it is easy to accept applied technology that hides the real reason that others want you to do things you don’t understand.
Simple?
We as a nation are dying from (unnecessary) Complexity.
Einstein got it.
Einstein: Everything Should Be Made as Simple as Possible, But Not Simpler
Einstein: When the solution is simple, God is answering.
Einstein: Computers are incredibly fast, accurate and stupid; humans are incredibly slow, inaccurate and brilliant; together they are powerful beyond imagination.
Einstein: Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.
Reading a headline such as this is almost surreal...
I don’t know any Luddites.
I agree with you. The reality is that AI is sort of like having a really good executive or research assistant. I don’t see a universe where greatly increasing our productivity makes us poorer.
But of course, a tool this powerful can be used for evil, no doubt.
The “investment” needs to be checked for DEI mandates.
The reality is that AI is sort of like having a really good executive or research assistant.
The problem is people do not like questions, they have to think. They like answers. AI will give “answers” to too many people, govt and institutions.
