The Democrat Party is a “very different party” than what he was acquainted with, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D-IL) said during an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday.

“It’s a different time right now. The Democratic Party is a very different party,” he said, noting that the “lunatic fringe” in the party have become the mainstream.

“And these crazy left wing socialists are chasing at them — the more reasonable Democrats. Now, [Sen. Dick] Durbin is a professional politician, but he’s not an unreasonable person, and he’s not a crazy left-wing lunatic socialist,” he said, explaining that the fringe left is now “running the show” and “chasing out these other Democrats.”

They really only have one card in their hand at the moment: Hate Trump. Everything they do is reactionary and it makes for some very strange base positions: men competing in women’s sports, for example. The only way they can maintain those positions is to distract the voters’ attention by a steady diet of Hate Trump, which the media are happy to provide.

Other than possibly a slight tick back under Kennedy, have the Democrats done anything other than move the country further to the left since Wilson (and if you count candidates, William Jennings Bryan starting in 1896). Every compromise is merely the starting point for the next leftward drive. This time, like the late 1960s, the most radical have broken completely away from the more moderate face of the party rather than limiting themselves to a speed the Republicans were happy to surrender at.
