Trump calls for Russia-Ukraine summit "to finish it off"

White House envoy Steve Witkoff met for three hours on Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.

Why it matters: The fourth meeting between Witkoff and Putin comes a day after President Trump made a public demand that Russia stop its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine and focus on negotiating a peace deal. "Vladimir, STOP! Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social account on Thursday. He said in a post Friday that after a "good day in talks and meetings with Russia and Ukraine" they "are very close to a deal, and the two sides should now meet, at very high levels, to 'finish it off.'"

"Most of the major points are agreed to. Stop the bloodshed, NOW," Trump added.
