WALMART'S CEO has reportedly issued a stark warning to US leaders over unavoidable price changes and empty shelves.

Doug McMillon and other retail executives admitted that supermarkets will see overhaul changes in just two weeks.

...Tea, avocados, sneakers, home furniture, bananas, video games, clothes, toys, and foreign-made cars are all expected to become much more expensive under Trump's trade plan.

In a disturbing comment, billionaire Mark Cuban warned that companies may start charging more even if a product isn't affected.

"Even if it's made in the USA, they will jack up the price and blame it on tariffs,"

There will be price gouging by shops, and blame it on tariffs.

I think small businesses are hurting

“We had a productive meeting with President Trump and his team and appreciated the opportunity to share our insights,” Walmart said in a statement

Target, in a similar statement, said “we had a productive meeting with President Trump and our retail peers to discuss the path forward on trade, and we remain committed to delivering value for American consumers.”

Just don’t hoard the toilet paper like during the great Covid scam shortages. Coffee filters are to abrasive.

OMG !!!!!!

Prices may go up 1-2%. Our world will come to an end!

This is nothing compared to the mild 17% price increase under Biden. Hurry. Up toilet paper.

Walmart will do just fine.

Their suppliers will eat some of the price increases and they will eat some themselves.

Consumers will see 5-10% price hikes.

US producers will see higher prices for their goods given the tariffs combined increased demand overseas helping them wit their margins.

Walmart may have to swallow a bit more on their end because they have such great negotiators for their buyers and such large economies of scale that they already get rock bottom prices from their suppliers.

However, Walmart is not the low price king that it used to be so their margins are pretty strong.

To put it into perspective, Walmarts loss due to “shrinkage” ie rampant outright theft by people brazenly walking out the doors with shopping carts full of goods, dwarfs the effects of the tariffs.

Frankly, all these big box retailers need to do is finally crack down on the retail theft from the back door reparations thieves who openly walk out with merch with impunity and they will be more than tariff neutral.

Avocados are considered a superfood, nutrient dense with antioxidants and mono-saturated fat.

Unfortunately, lost the avocado tree last September from Hurricane Helene flood.

Aside from food and autos, you can get a lot of that stuff at antique and thrift stores.
Avocados and tea can be replaced by other food items.
Foreign made autos will be more expensive but hopefully US automakers won’t increase prices too much.
Foreign made luxury items are discretionary and high income people will pay more or buy domestic. Wine, clothing, luxury cars etc.
The idea is that we can’t have China surpass US economically or militarily just because people had to have cheap toys and sneakers. Time to on-shore and find new supply chains.

Trump’s only screw up is not getting out of the Globohomo nightmare in Ukraine. The only possible way to deal with China is to break the China/ Russia economic alliance that the Project Ukraine idiots have wrought.

China not only is addicted to exports, they must also have massive quantities of imported oil, gas and food. ALL of that they now are getting from Russia at sanction driven DISCOUNTS. That fact made the ridiculous sanctions, that hurt no one but Europe and the U.S., China’s lifeline in an economic war with the U.S. If Trump gets his head out his rear and walks away from the Uke debacle and establishes normal trade with Russia he will win in Russia and China. That accomplished the rest of the world will follow the Trump line.

[sneakers]

I actually bought a new pair a couple of months ago (roughly).

I was about to return them then I thought, nah, better hang on to them just in case the price jumps. I haven’t checked lately. Wouldn’t surprise me.

Still, the USA was always on the wrong end. Hoping that more countries decide to work with President Trump.

Much as I hate to agree with Cuban, this may be ONE thing he got correct: Price Gouging is definitely a possibility.

On my way to work on the morning of 9/11/2001, I filled up the tank on my SUV because I KNEW what was going to happen later that day.

Gas that was about $1.23/gal (been too long) at 9:30 a.m. (I went in late that day) was $5 a gallon by rush hour in a few places that very same day.

: The wholesale cost is a fraction of the retail price (e.g., 50–70% for general merchandise). If a $10 retail item has a $5 wholesale cost, a 145% tariff increases the wholesale cost to $12.25, a 145% increase on COGS but a smaller percentage of the retail price.

Over 30% of U.S. clothing is China-made. A 145% tariff could increase retail prices by 20–40% (e.g., a $20 shirt rising to $24–$28), assuming 30–50% pass-through.

30–40% China-sourced, with price increases of 15–30% (e.g., a $50 pan rising to $57.50–$65)

Non-exempt electronics (e.g., video game systems) could see 20–40% increases, as seen with Best Buy’s warnings.

Groceries shouldn't be affected at all

So it would look like a 5 to 15% increase in prices, much lower than the 17% under B

I am raising my rents in my investment properties and raising the rate I charge clients for my work — blaming both on tariffs.
I’m a writer. I think foreign thoughts. :)

Tetley British Blend Premium Black Tea, 320 Teabags, Rainforest Alliance Certified $15.92 $0.05 per Count ($0.05 / Count)

Was $12 on sale, expect to be $19

Thank God for supply, competition and income to purchase. I simmer 2 or 3 bags in a half gallon pot and it is fine. I do not want much caffeine anyway. Bags do not disintegrate either.

He is right on the money. Business greed never fails to take advantage of a crisis and kick folks while they are down. And not just gouging but price fixing. Anytime they can blame it on something other than their own greed it is going to happen. Seen it time and time again over and over since I was a child.

Want to prevent it from getting too out of hand? DON”T BUY IT!, just say no and refuse to pay the prices. Learn to live without some stuff. When they are not moving product they will back off the greed.
