U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., together with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Mary Makary, announced a new round of food dye bans on Tuesday afternoon at a press conference here.
The agencies shared their intent to phase out the use of petroleum-based synthetic dyes from the nation’s food supply.
"Today, the FDA is taking action to remove petroleum-based food dyes," said Makary as he kicked off the press conference. "For the last 50 years, American children have increasingly been living in a toxic soup of synthetic chemicals. The scientific community has conducted a number of studies raising concerns about the correlation between petroleum-based synthetic dyes and several health conditions, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance, cancer, genomic disruption, and GI issues."
"No parent should have to guess whether the food they're giving their child contains substances banned in Europe allowed here."

We get all the artificial junk, ingredients that aren't even allowed in Asia, Europe and Canada.
Why “phase out”? Do it NOW!
When you put it that way, it gets me mad.
I think they are giving factories time to switch over.
Once you change the recipe you have to do all your manufacturing qualifications which takes time.
It’s rather routine and not hard to do but does take a while to perform all the tests such as accelerated aging for shelf life...about a month for every year you expect before the expiry date.
You are correct.
Gov't COULDN'T CARE LESS about your health and what you eat. Nor is gov't constitutionally allowed nor qualified to regulate our healthcare or food supply. Gov't wants POWER and YOUR MONEY.
Trump bans poison in food. Democrats are outraged!
The same can be said about the big food corporations. They want your money and they sure don’t give a rats ass about your health. Someone has to set standards so I guess this is a legitimate function of government.
Yes call me a big govt leftist all you want.
The only thing “leftist” about clean food is that it was hijacked by the left prior to now.
Since they’ve shown themselves insane, now is a good time to acquire some of the useful issues from them and make them ours.
On the plus side, it makes their heads explode even more. Win-win.
The Canadians still use Red Dye #2. They think we are nuts for banning it. These have been tested and they have not been shown to cause cancer, and certainly not obesity. They are used on very low levels.
If you change the formula you have a completely different chemical. I remember one guy trying to sell me on his “Better: Vitamin C. If you change one atom, it is no longer Vitamin C.
Let's hope he bans high fructose corn syrup next. Note HFCS is NOT corn syrup. It is chemical Frankenstein corn syrup.
Fox was wrong. It’s Marty (not Mary) Makary.
Corporations do not take your money and liberty at the threat of jail, life, or limb, and are not under constitutional limitations.
You’ve bought the Leftist lie, one of a long line, that anything but the monstrous federal gov’t is the greatest threat to your life, liberty, and freedoms.
Wake up before it’s too late!
He should ban soy ;-)
I’ll make popcorn!
In fact, when I was in grade school there was one friend who had polio and a young gal who had epileptic seizures......That was the extent of childhood ailments.
So pretty soon, my Pink Salmon will be renamed as
“Muddy Waters Grey” Salmon?
And my Orange Sherbet will be Haze Grey (lite) Sherbet?
“Natural” dyes aren’t necessarily better.
The red, carmine, is called natural and is made from crushed insects and insect shells.
I hav one kid allergic to it.
Plus it’s my understanding that it’s not kosher either.
Why can’t the retailers sell the USA consumers the Asian or European, or Canadian versions? Those formulations are already for sale....???
