The National Weather Service’s reduction in weather balloon launches left forecasters on shaky ground last week as the central U.S. got hammered with hail and tornadoes, outside meteorologists told NBC News.
The storms were one of the first tests of weather forecasts during severe weather since balloon releases were cut back in places like Grand Junction, Colorado; Omaha, Nebraska; and Green Bay, Wisconsin, among other sites. Balloon launches are time-intensive tasks, and many local offices were forced to cut back after the Trump administration trimmed the size of NWS by offering early retirements and laying off some probationary workers.
Survived in Wisconsin in rain/wind/tornadoes/blizzards.
DIDN’T have near this much “INFORMATION”.
NWS here’s a way to fix that. Switch all the resources wasted on “climate change” and DIE to forecasting. Problem solved!
A judge will agree. Congress dragging ass Could. stop these judges.

There’s no definitive evidence yet that the National Weather Service’s reduction in weather balloon launches directly caused harm, like specific deaths or property damage, as the cuts began in early 2025 and severe weather events are still unfolding.
blah blah blah
BS.
There are plenty of resources available to meteorologists.
They launched a balloon at 3pm
Usually launches ,where they occur
are at 7am and 7pm
So they launched a “special sounding” at that time just for this event
Having ballon data at 7pm that day would have done NOTHING for the forecast since the even was already underway
Also wind shear can be calculated off the Doppler Omaha radar anyway at anytime
Agreed. Weather is unpredictable sometimes...stop wasting time with stupid stuff and focus on the weather. It’s all still just an educated guess.
All these degreed TV Meteorologists and they have to depend on the NWS? Heck, I get most of my weather info from The Weather Channel and Accuweather!......................
Typical thought pattern of an entrenched bureaucracy. Look up “Pournelle’s Iron Law” - I am sure the cuts required some re-balancing of resources away from folderol and into actual core mission services. I also bet that the core mission is a remote pre-historical concept to the bureaucrats who have so many better things to do that serve the established order.

Icky, too much human climate change programming
Use weather nation
They have a livestream on rumble

I suggest the govt issue a weather rock for everyone....................
It was supposed to rain here at 1 and it’s almost 4 o’clock and nothing.
What percentage of humans need to know the weather more than a day out in normal conditions? In times of hurricane or swow storm, yes, but the rest of us don’t need to know much.
No, but we have the weird Helene/Militon hurricanes. Then the 6-state Tornadoes, Floods, and Thunderstorms. We have been told we have another such storm system following the same path. Unusual Spring, hot then cold, rainy, super windy.
Not at all typical of W. TN. I’ve lived here 50+ years. Yes, we have an odd winter once in a blue moon. Not like last year.
With all the models and technology lets face it, theyre are still wrong a staggering amount of the time.
At least we’ve had enough rain...the Mississippi River is full.
Sure they did NBC “ news”
Any cat to big Brother government has devastating consequences
“NWS here’s a way to fix that. Switch all the resources wasted on “climate change” and DIE to forecasting. Problem solved!”
Exactly. NOAA did this to themselves by promoting with their budget dollars the peudoscience of climate changes. i’m sure most cutbacks were in the administrative areas, HR and DEI affirmative action and not in critical forecasters.
