I have no idea who is in the running, but it seems time for them to choose a black pope.

They won't do that because an African pope is going to be a Conservative. Think of somebody like Clarence Thomas.

They'll pick an European/South American Pope.

Maybe Satan will quit playing around and just take the job himself.

Cardinal Dolan would be great but no way he’d even be considered.

I’ve read a LOT of good things about Sahara....seemingly very conservative.

RE: Did anyone see Francis as a front runner going into the last conclave?

Not exactly. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who later became Pope Francis, was considered a long shot during the 2013 conclave. At 76 years old, many thought he was too old to be elected. However, his reputation for humility and his focus on social justice resonated deeply with the cardinals, leading to his unexpected election.

It’s a reminder that papal elections often defy predictions.

I’ve lived through four of these conclaves and followed them closely and the one thing that remains constant is that the one who is finally selected Pope is one that no one would have guessed and is never one of the so-called “front runners”.

Peter Erdő is the best of the lot ... the others are just Frankie clones and Islamic stooges.

I’m not catholic but most of my family is.

Apparently a second cousin of mine, now deceased was in the running as the first American Pope a couple times ago.

Even though as a born again Christian his beliefs vary widely from mine that would have been kind of cool. I only recall meeting him once or twice.

I recall reading here that he was second to Benedict in the prior election. Don’t know if that was correct. It didn’t seem they were on the same side at times.

Also, from reading here, recently Francis was trying to have the victory margin reduced to 50% because it would be more likely his choice would win. Don’t know if he got it done.

I am not Catholic, but I wish them well.

They should elect the Archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone. Sam and I went to junior high and high school together. He is very conservative and would drive Pelosi nuts.

Pope Francis (Jorge Mario Bergoglio) was seen as a “papabile” (possible Pope) from the beginning, although not heavily favored. He came out in the top 3 on Day One. By the 4th ballot on Day Two he was the clear frontrunner.

Interesting. I have never seen papal voting results reported publicly. But, however you learned about these results, it sure would be interesting to see how certain candidates gain or lose support, through multiple rounds of voting.

I am a Cordileone fan, but when was the last time a non-Cardinal was elected?
A. 1378 (Pope Urban VI).
